There is a 6 degree weather and lots of rain forecast for thursday, with 0 degree point of 2500 meters. I just hope it does not kill my whole weekend.

Also for some reason upper slopes are closed and lower slopes are open, isn't supposed to be the other way around with little snow?

Remember snow will fall some way below the zero line - latest forecast is showing snow down to about 2100m on Thursday and the following days to be a fair bit colder.

Could be any of a number of reasons - higher slopes can get stripped by wind (or lifts can shut due to wind), lower slopes usually have more snow cannons... and the resort may also be preserving major runs for the peak 2 weeks which start this weekend.

Good luck! 8)

Raining in Hoffgastein. Only SportGastein is any good around here. Badgastein has one run open but it was in poor shape yesterday and if anyone bothered to ski it today it can only be worse. Sport had light snow for most of the day and everything above 2300 is natural with 300 metres of canon generated to get you back to the mid station. Quite a few stones on the last 600 metres too. Crystal have 18 clients this week in the area with 80 coming out next week and 180 the week after. I really cant see anything opening next week that's not open now so I for one would rather not be here for xamas and another week of the same would leave the second busiest week of the season in tatters.

It's grim. I skiied Scheffau in Skiwelt on Saturday which had a few runs open but was fairly pants frankly. Then on Sunday I did Kitzbühel which was much better....a little sunshine and slopes were in better condition....although of course 100% cannon snow.

I was in Niederau today and it was pissing with rain across the wet and green slopes of grass.

Forecasts now through to New Year are all still basically rubbbish. Hints of snow but varying forecasts and NONE indicating a proper dump of any sort.

Enjoy.

Hi, hopefully an easy one for you. i Don't get to St Anton till the 28th Dec
i am visiting family in Hungary before flying to Zurich and then getting the train

the way i see it is i can ditch st Anton accept the hotel cost as a loss and find somewhere with snow and travel to there from Zurich or still stay in the booked hotel in St Anton and hire a car or use public transport.

realistically is there anywhere within 1-2 hours of St Anton worth traveling too?

many thanks

I am going off memory here, but in Austria, if you have booked direct with the hotel, you may have nationally controlled cancellation rights.

Here it is:
Cancellation fees are as follows:
No cancellation fee up to 3 months prior to arrival;
40% of the total agreed price up to 1 month prior to arrival;
70% of the total agreed price up to 1 week prior to arrival;
90% of the total agreed price in the last week prior to arrival.

From this, you can limit the write off to 70% of the total.

Have you checked if the hotel has a sister hotel in any of the above areas? They might allow you to switch bookings.
