(PS - I've skied in New South Wales - Thredbo, Perisher and Mount Blue Cow!)

I really like Thredbo, love the village feel. Perisher is a little sterile for me

Crowley, I liked Blue Cow best of the three - it had the feel of high mountains and Happy Valley in snowstorm was great fun. The best day, however, was at Thredbo, skiing off the Karels t-bar in deep, new snow one Saturday morning.

Don't shoot the messenger, 'Spade is a Spade'. Am from the UK just pointing out how amusing to see how nationalities often live up to stereotypes.

I could be more direct and point out that anyone who has invested substantial time, effort, money booking an pre-Christmas ski holiday that is not in Cervinia did not do their homework or was willing to take a chance. So fine people take a chance but does feel somewhat like standing next to a drunk bloke in a casino telling everyone on table how he put everything on black. Unless you booked a resort with substantial glaciated skiing (plenty advertise but have little to offer) you are never covering zero.

Given that Cervinia offers everything a holiday should have am amazed anyone even bothers to look elsewhere for December.
Cheap flights from UK
Short transfers
Great food and even great food on mountain (won't find that in rest of Alps)
Pleasant resort at >2000m
Glaciated skiing for all levels
Good coffee
Good wine
Good value

There you go I gave the old 'in hindsight' speech. Go Cervinia! Greatest resort on earth (in November and December), Very good (Jan-Mid March), bit south facing after that.

Do you think they might give me a season pass :-)? Definitely a good place though, no idea why has never really taken off with British skiers.

It was immensely popular with British skiers when I went there, three times, in the late 1970s-early 1980s. However, the lift system was old then and took a long time to catch up with modern standards. They also had some well-publicised poor snow seasons that didn't do its reputation any good.

The Majority of brits just go with the package tour flow.I did a Cervinia trip a few year back at the start of
December. Low cost flight car hire and a 2 star hotel,it was cheap as chips.

Putting costs to one side, I would choose Zermatt over Cervinia every time.

Our choice for our upcoming new year holiday was either Zermatt, Val Thorens or Tignes/Val d'Isere with altitude foremost in our minds.
slippy slidey snow......me likey!
