Trust me, at 8 euros a pint, the only bar I will be visiting will be the one doing happy hour straight off the slopes before retiring to the jacuzzi on the balcony with a cold bottle of beer from our fridge.

BTW, webcam is now working fine, and there is a lot of snow.

Yay \ :D/

I am tea total, and unfortunately they put up the price of tea as well.

I will be back to my usual self-catering in Courchevel in Feb. These sort of prices are ridiculous. I will ski back down from 1850 to 1550 for my home made cheese salad baguette and tea at lunch time.

Thats the way to do it Ally, that is what the French do, or find a cheaper resort

Good for the French. When I am on a skiing holiday, I do whatever I want to enjoy myself. But I dont pay 8 euros for a pint. It was cheaper in St Anton by some way too! Thats France for you.

I do believe you can get a pint in happy hour at the end of a skiing day in several bars for around 3 euros. Maybe Andy Hull has more details on where, but the ADH online guide has some suggestions.

France is more expensive than anywhere generally, Ian. You should try Austria sometime.... )

Ian,
They also bring pic-nics. We saw some pretty impressive ones at Tignes last week - a real spread of all sorts of yummy foods which they ate on the tables outside the restaurant (wouldn't be allowed in the UK).

I think the French tend to be pretty careful with money, which explains why the ladies toilets were locked when we were there, and why they usually charge 40 cents to use either the gents or ladies. It's a sort of permanent battle between the restaurants and the customers.

I have not been allowed to eat my own rolls anywhere in France when I sat down and bought a drink. Maybe it varies from resort to resort, but I ended up trying to hide it in the foil inside my bag and behaving like some kind of criminal. Pathetic. And as for locking toilets....thats just taking the p*** )

TBO I never have that problem in LGb, Ham & chips €5 no charge for bread,Local cheese and ham €5 and Mrs W and I share that one, 50cl's of beer €4, coke is always expensive about €3.5 .......... but you are right France is hideously expensive both alps and the south of, I'd just pee them off sit their every day buy a beer and eat my own food, or a couple bottles of beer in your rucksack sit anywhere and enjoy.
