To be blunt, I dont go for the view of the town. If I am in the town, I assess the view of the mountains, or alternatively the view from up there across the rest of the mountains. I know places like Flaine are ugly, but ADH isnt quite in that league.
It fits the bill in terms of mileage, variety, height and snow record, price, etc. Also, La Sarenne and The Tunnel look interesting and will be tried. I dont assess a ski resort based on the colour of the buildings or whether or not there are any apartments more than 3 stories high. If that was the case, no one would ever go to France.

Anyway, as it happens, L'Altiport is a hamlet of wooden traditional style chalets directly situated off a piste. Being up in the mountains is good enough for me, with snow everywhere. ADH may not even be in view from our balcony, from where Stewart and I will be sat in the hot tub with an ice cold beer in hand.

Looks ok to me.

I know its not your cup of tea in terms of architecture, Wickers, but in terms of the skiing, I think it looks pretty darn good. I will be able to report back in January.

As you know Tony I'm very much into my Architecture, me and Charlie W  the environment I'm in does have a box to tick but I must say it doesn't look half bad from your last posting......before I start to get excited I'd like the photo on 360 degree so I can be completely convinced 8)

The first time I went on the scare chair I think I stopped breathing for a few seconds - it really is an amazing chair. Really worth doing though as the views are just incredible and the runs over the other side down to Auris en Oisans are some of my favourite runs and they tend to be almost deserted. On the return journey, you can ski down to the bottom of the valley and pick up the chair, but the run was in the shade when we did it and quite icy. AdH may not have chocolate box charm but the skiing more than makes up for that.

I think those pictures are beautiful. Tony is going, it's all booked and I reckon it'll be brilliant.

This will be my 5th holiday to ADH, the reason I keep going back is it's simply superb.
I've skied most of Europe's big resorts and ADH is right up there with the best.
If you were designing the perfect resort you'd end up with something looking a lot like ADH.
It's the perfect resort for groups of mixed ability, the easiest skiing being closest to the town, the higher up go the more challenging the skiing. The scenery is stunning and ADH itself is an established little town not the typical 'French ski abomination'!
The Tunnel is a must if you're up for a challenge (see youtube). The Sarenne is special, not particularly difficult, but long with rewarding views. Loads of other great runs, both on and off piste.
With several distinct areas, there's loads to explore, the long run down into Oz being one of my all time favourite runs. There's a great little mountain pizza restaurant which is well worth a stop for lunch.

I don't think I have skied any of Europe's big resorts and I don't really want to the only place I might take a visit to will be Zermatt 8)
