3 weeks after hernia repair and he going to go skiing  OMG Surely his health has to be the first concern. Yes it's disappointing to miss out this time around, but there will be other opportunities to go ski.

Well maybe its not the brightest thing to do, but he will always have the option of packing in if he is not up to it. Have discussed and he says not cancelling. I am pretty sure that if he is only capable of the softest run that is what he will stick to, and at the end of the day apart from the usual risk of any type of injury probably the worst that can happen is that it pops out again.

make sure to check that your insurance is valid or it could end up being very expensive should something go wrong

I honestly think your other half is being selfish. I would cancel, as I would be far more disappointed in having a ski holiday and either not being able to ski or doing myself more damage.

I don't think he will be allowed to go a group of us went at end of January one of the group had donated a kidney to his brother in November and the surgeon did his hernia as a favour he was then told not to go skiing because of the hernia not the kidney transplant that. Is how serious it could be you really need proper medical advice

Here's the plan take him along blanket and a hip flask a nice seat at the bottom of the piste, and you can go off and ski ..... I'm sure he would do the same for you

I had this op 5 years ago. Saw the consultant in June, told him I was going skiing mid January. He indicated a recovery period of 13 weeks prior to skiing, but not to worry, he assured me my op would be completed in plenty of time. In September, I caaled the relevant hospital dept. A secretary was quite dismissive, that I was not a priority, and the surgeon was in no position to arrange case dates.
"Fair enough, which department do I send the £3000 holiday bill to? A family holiday that was booked on the say so of your hospital representative", I enquired.

The next day I received a phone call with an operation appointment. That appointment left me with just 12 weeks. I had to ski conservatively, but I was OK-just. I did let my insurance company know.

The downside of a hernia op failure is that the operation will have to be repeated.
