I always take 2 jackets: 1 thicker insulated with a zip out fleece, and another thinner waterproof for warmer days.
Both need to be wind and waterproof, and should have a hood, sealed zipped pockets outside, and some interior pockets including a lift pass pocket.
If you want to do it on a budget, I'd recommend branded jackets in TK Maxx. Buying cheap lower quality from the likes of the supermarkets is a false economy.
Alternatively, think big time and get yourself some decent Arc'teryx or Haglofs gear 8)

On Helmets, I think there's a whole topic on here somewhere on it, probably worth a read. But it's a personal choice, some wear them as begineers, some don't.

I would agree with Tony on the TK Maxx thing. We had our first ski hol last year and got quite a bit of good quality gear from there. They might have some bits left now but they start getting new ski stock from about September onwards so keep your eye out for bargains. As we totally caught the ski bug after our first trip we've invested in a few more quality items for our trip this year. You can build up your kit as you go along.

I think a chipped swatch is the credit card style lift passes? I might be wrong though!

God no! not jeans! You'll need to invest in a couple of sets of base layers. These are like long johns but a sort of nylon material, the top is the same material and usually very fitted. If you wear anything cotton when you sweat it gets wet and doesn't dry which means you get cold. 2 sets is enough for a week as you can wash them out and they dry quickly overnight. On top of that you'll need ski socks and 1 or 2 micro fleeces to wear under a ski jacket. Oh and a hat and ski gloves of course. Hope this helps you.

yh i know what ya mean i forgot what they was called so jus called em long johns.
So for bottom it best wear base layer long john type things with skiin trousers over top. and some ski socks. then for top again the base layer and then a micro fleece (are they small or something? why are they called micro?) with me ski coat on top. some gloves with maybe inner gloves as well? and then a hat.
sorted! ?
