Ski Poles

Hi All,

I've been tasked with getting some new ski poles for a friend and as im a boarder i dont have a clue, so am after some help

- They all look the same... what are the main things to look out for?
- Which material, Allum, Graphite, Carbon?
- Also any brands which are better than others?

Any advice or recommendations will be very much appreciated.

EDIT: Oh, forgot to mention she is an intermediate skiier and goes twice a year and stays predominatly on piste. Thanks Again.

As long as they are the right length just get her the ones you think she might like the look of.

turn them upsaide down, grab the poles under the basket and make sure her elbow is at 90degrees
oh and get a grip that is comfortable!
aluminium is best-mid price range but still light and strong

Any old junk will do don't spend too much money on poles, size is everything :lol:

The first half of the sentence works for me, Wickers, cheapest is best! On the second bit, my kind wife has always said, "don't worry Dave, size isn't everything"

I'm sure this is an observation. She is very perceptive.

2 metre K2s aren't too short. Lordy, she is so gracious!

dont get cheapest ones-they will snap in no time, I had a pair of cheap cheap poles and the snapped clean in two so I bought ones that were aluminium-NOT carbon fibre, only £10 more and they have been bent but can be bent back into shape-better value for ££

Wrong. I have snapped a couple pairs of expensive Scott aluminium poles. I have found that the cheap ones are just as good.

She will be happy if they look nice, most intermediates wouldn't come close to breaking a pole.
