Just a note to Verbier SB.. have you tried a volume reducer (in reality another , quite hard, footbed a few mm thick). It saved me from buying a new pair of boots / moving some clips when the inners had crushed down after a few weeks skiing...saved quite a few quid too

Hubby off to purchase tomorrow.

Thanks very much Nelly, that may well come in handy :D

Profeet, in London, where I'm buying fitted boots, guarantee to meet the cheapest price on ski boots as long as it's in an actual shop in the U.K. and they give you 30 days to tell them you found some cheaper elsewhere, because as they say, they can't monitor everyone else's sale prices constantly.

So, after I've bought my boots I'll post the model, size, make, colour etc. up and the price, and if anyone knows they're on sale at a lower price somewhere else please post to let me know, and then I can claim a refund (assuming I've read their price guarantee correctly).

This is why I'm buying my boots now, when there are plenty of sales around, even though I won't actually need them until October.

Nelly, I hope your husband finds some comfy boots at a great price :D

Thanks everyone, for all the input - it's a great help :D

I hope this isn't too off topic.. following on from the toenail debate. most of my toenail (bigtoe) is about to come off. Kept in place with elasroplast. Am off skiing on Sunday..should I remove the nail or try to keep it in place as long as poss ?? anyone got any experience of this ? FYI - It's a football injury and not from my ski boots.

Ally, whilst you are in London you should pop in to Snow and Rock and see if they have the boots in stock. Take a picture of the boot along with the price tag because they will probably ask for proof.

Live_Ade,
My GP seemed to think that the best idea was to keep the toe-nail on as long as possible, to protect the nail bed (the bit under the nail), although he wasn't actually thinking about ski-ing at the time. He said I should tape it on.

I managed to keep my damaged toe-nail on for 5 weeks after I damaged it, and I've still got a small bandage on over the nail bed and baby nail to protect it (in case I drop a log on it or stand on it or something). I am hoping I will be able to get my ski boot on with a small plaster on it.

Pablo,
Thanks, but I have a very packed schedule for my London trip (no long wibbly explanations - I am trying, really!), and I won't have time to go there - can't I just look on the internet and print out the page?

Probably, might have better offers/bigger selection in store though.

live_Ade Elastoplast is okay, though if you want to keep a close eye on your toe health, then Micropore Tape might be worth using instead. Buy it in a roll from any chemist, and cut to shape.
