bandit wrote:Wickers, Ryanair do not allow passengers to "pool" their luggage allowance. Each bag must be a max of 15kg regardless of how many bags you paid to take, or how many travelled in your group. The fact that you took 1 bag, limited your party to 15kg, unfortunately.

Edit: I forgot to mention that the check in staff are incentivised to increase revenue.

Well that may be an oversight on my part...... but I will not use Ryan air again....... Now lets bring an end to this discussion........ They have lost a customer 8)

I do sympathise Ian. For all that Ryanair are correct, I bet that all of us would feel the same as you, were that to happen to us.

With low budget airlines, it is important to be on top of the T&Cs. Each airline has a different target market. What is more, they strategically adjust that market target, when competitors make adjustments.

As Bandit says, Ryanair want to strip out customers with hold baggage. The weakness in their tactics, (as opposed to strategy), is that they have a weight restriction on hand baggage. What did Easyjet do? They removed the weight restriction on hand baggage.

We have to recognise that these airlines have uncovered the laziness of large carriers, have identified and separated out their costs, and made their market offers accordingly.

The knock-on effect is that where they are in competition against large carriers, there has been a competitive effect on price.

Sorry Ian, you didnt adhere to the restrictions and regulations and got caught out. You cant go blaming the airline. Bandit is correct when she points out that you are allowed ONE BAG PER PASSENGER to a max of 15kg checked in. You used to be able to pool your allowances, but that changed a couple of years ago and therefore had you adhered to the guidelines, you would have been fine. The daft part of your one man boycott is that you actually paid for 2 bags and only took 1. Had you taken 2 bags, you would have been fine.
Like I said earlier, you only have yourself to blame, and like their restrictions or not, thats what you have to adhere to, and thats why I guess you have decided not to use them again.
You know I am right.

Dids1 wrote:It may be the rule, but it really does seem unreasonable to me. If he paid for 2 bags totalling 30kg and only took 1 totalling 19kg (is that right?) then it does seem very inflexible.
Rules or no rules.
I can see why you are gnashing your teeth Ian, even if strictly speaking Ryan Air have only followed their policy.
It doesnt matter whether you like it or not, its written in black in white in their T&Cs. In fact, its now very clear on their website when you book. 15kg per person in 1 bag checked in MAXIMUM or pay excess charges.

Acknowledging that the airline is in the right, had this happened to you Tony, how happy would you feel?

Dave, a very simple answer: It would not have happened to me. I understand what I am allowed to take with me.
Anyway, Wickers has his reasons not to use Ryanair, fair play to him.
Rumour has it Michael O'Leary texted him today....
