Gadgetgirl, we have two family members with poor circulation - one with Reynaud's Syndrome - and they were both very much helped by acupuncture. I know it sounds a bit strange, but several sessions made a big improvement. So, if this issue is causing you problems generally, you might like to consider acupuncture? It is expensive, but they reckon it was well worth it.

And also, I thought they sold electric boot warmers - but maybe you have to have special boots for them and they wouldn't fit in yours - I don't know.

Yeah, I think it might be a mild version of Reynaud's Syndrome, as I get it in my fingers, toes and my nose is always freezing too! Apparently cold hands are good for pastry making :D

I have a relative who does acupuncture (although still in final stages of training I think), so might ask them about it, and volunteer to be a guinee pig!

ps - Pablo, they definitely said tubes on the packet!!

Feet warmers - the ones that you insert in your boots - are also great. You can buy them at amazon, they are not expensive and very useful when it's really cold and you need to do lot of traverse and drag lifts.

Ally, what happened to your bootfitting? Did you get the boots in the end? Which ones? I am looking for a pair boots and even that I was going to postpone buying a new pair till next season, I think I will get them this weekend in Zermatt - better chance to get a good price in the end of the season.

good luck Ally, looking forward to your report. Just make sure you don't get boots that will be too soft (don't get them too stiff either). By what you are saying you've been skiing for quite a while even that you prefer taking lot of lessons. So you are running a risk that they'll give you very low flex boots which whereas being dead comfortable are also guaranteed to stop you progressing. Ask for boots that without being too stiff will still make your ankles work with you being aware of it. And bear in mind that the liner will pack after a season or two (depending how often you ski) . After mine did I've beein skiing in boots that are a little bit too big and once I moved up to more serious skis I got a proper feeling of it and they kicked my butt a couple of times on steeps where I was definitely doing everything right but it was taking extra moment to transfer into skis, so now I can't wait to get new boots. Good luck and don't them lure you into buying something you'd be wanting to get rid off this time next year!

I use point6 socks, ultra thin but very warm, very good for boots that are custom made.

Thanks Verbier S B, and Andi,

I actually started ski-ing when I was only eight, 40 years ago, but unfortunately I had a 30 year gap. So I haven't really done a great deal of ski-ing - four weeks of lessons and six and a half weeks of ski-ing altogether as an adult.

I am aiming to be quite honest about my ability and I'm hoping that they will sort out complicated things like the flex of the boot. I didn't realize until relatively recently that beginner's and advanced boots had a different flex. I suppose that means if you buy yourself boots as a beginner then you will pretty soon have to go and buy yourself some more.

I know where I am on the ski school ability level grading scheme. I am just over the boundary between what they call intermediate and advanced. So I can ski okay on the piste and I'm just beginning to learn off-piste, moguls, slalom, and powder.

I will try and buy some thinner ski socks.

I phoned them today, to check that it would still be okay even though I am now minus a toe-nail, and they said it would be fine, but it was a good thing I phoned because they said I should bring shorts or roll up trousers  Apparently they want to look at my hairy legs and nobbly knees  I will let you know why, after I get back home, probably on Friday.

Thin socks do not necessarily mean they are not warm. It sounds to me like the lady who posted earlier may have boots that dont fit properly.
