Well, it was an excellent week in Engelberg - except for Thursday afternoon when you could see only a yard in front of your face. Horrible.

Immaculate snow all week, lots of scope for lift-served off-piste but the resort does have two major weaknesses - very little tree-line skiing for bad weather and a horrendous lift bottleneck for access to the mountain (on Friday morning the queue was awful).

Otherwise the efficient Swiss International and SBB travel combination did the trick -skiing early on Monday afternoon after leaving early Monday morning. And skiing yesterday until 2.30pm and back in the UK by 10pm local.

Quirky hotel, but that's another story.....

It was good then :D What do you need to see for, was the powder not over your head? 8)

We really do need to know about the hotel :D

I may be a little old fashioned but I do like to see where I'm going.

No heating or hot water when the temperature was -12 outside! That's pretty quirky in my book!

Perhaps your hotelier thought you were well 'ard ) I hope you went to Reception and made your point!

Which hotel were you staying in, we need to avoid it?

Bad news about the Q though, have you tried skinning up?

The que thing is one of the reasons I rarely go to Engelberg. I've spent 40mins waiting at the bottom and over an hour trying to get from Traubsee to Stand on more then one occasion. I know people who live there and don't bother going skiing on the weekends. Pity though there is some good off-piste to be had if you can get up there.

Yes, the point was made forcibly at reception - and we were moved to a much more amenable room.

No chance of skinning at my age Bandit! However, the queues from Monday to Thursday were non-existant and the resort was very quiet in the evenings; no problem getting a table for dinner. And strangely, despite the massive scrum on Friday, we hardly queued anywhere else on the mountain once we had got into Trubsee/Jochpass/Jochstock! But oh for some runs through some trees when the weather is bad.

When the weather is good, Engelberg is one of my faves - when it's bad, it's utterly dismal.

You might have a valid point there )

Glad you got the hotel sorted, but I still don't know which one to avoid!

Re: skinning, most of the folks I see skinning up, are old enough to be my parents, they do tend to be fit though!

There you are Bandit - actually once our room was sorted, I really liked the hotel!

(Hope this works - not very good with this picture lark!)
