I will let you know about Saalbach next week, even though I think Hinterglemm is the livelier part of the resort. Mind you, I might be totally confused there. Actually I might not be that much use as all I intend to do is ride, eat, swim, sauna, recieve massages, read my book and sleep. Who am I kidding, I will post updates daily, some of them more coherent than others :D
I do however think that of the 2 remaining you should have opted for Ischgl over Saalbach. Have a rethink before you book anything.

Soll is the closest to Munich. However, Westendorf, which is a few miles away and on the same circus has better terain for beginners and improvers, pus better snow and fewer crowds. This part of tirol is one of the cheapest areas of Austria, though less snow sure.

Why is nightlife so important? ski all day a nice meal and a couple of drinks in the evening and if you have skied hard enough that should be quite enough :shock:

I agree Crosser.
I have been to St Anton and its great skiing for good intermediates, but not really suitable for beginners. Ischgl is ok for beginners but the nursery slopes are up the mountain so they need passes - nice for them getting more of the feel of the mountian though.
Saalbach has a reputation for being rowdy as oppose to lively according to some people I know, many a late night fight. Not what you want anywhere, especially on a ski holiday.
Personally, I just wouldnt consider somewhere like Soll when comparing with these kind of resorts.
Mayrhofen from experience would be ideal for you, apart from the gondola ride up and down each day.
I still think Ischgl would be your shout, or if not look at Solden.

I've decided against Soll because of its altitude. I know the middle of February should be a good time for snow but I'm not willing to risk it. Also sounds like package holiday paradise which mightn't be much fun during mid-term.
Mayrhofen sounds fantastic but the fact that the village isn't on the slopes and there's only one gondola up in the mornings is a real turn-off- especially during mid-term.
Ischgl and Saalbach both sound ideal for what I'm looking for but I think Saalbach wins based on affordability (or so I've been lead to believe!). Although accommodation doesn't look cheap in Saalbach for that week.
Anyone disagree with my conclusions?

Ischgl is not rated highly for beginners. Soll is, but Ellmau provides easier walking distance access, both the same from Munich. Soll is spread out, although it has some good attractions.
