Hopefully more like this

This is the same boat - but with people who know what they're doing.

Keith,

Great video showing the fun you are about to have --- I can hear it even has a motor

Sailing is similar to skiing in a few ways:

We are out in the fresh air enjoying the "great out-of-doors in both sports.

We read the ski hill to choose our path just as we read the wind on the water to plot our course.

Both undertakings have thrilling moments just as they do have soothimg ones.

We recall the great events of each season since it is recalling over and over these events that keep us sane during the off season.

Both are dependant on using water for the medium in different forms for some of the best fun a person can have on this planet.

In both cases we use the term "crusing" to describe our feelings or our travelling time.

Sailing is skiing without the skis just as skiing is sailing without the boat. OK - that's a stretch.

And both sports have been well documented in magazines dedicated to the sport.

Can I just say that sailing is about as similar to skiing, as football is to horse racing.
As an avid skier, I have no interest whatsoever in sailing.
The only thing that goes on water I have any interest in is a cross channel ferry.

Two months ago I would have agreed with you completely - except I wouldn't have liked the cross channel ferry either.

Perhaps I got hit on the head in Sauze or something

Oh, Tony,

Don't say that.,

It is best to keep an open mind. When you get the chance to go sailing with Keith and feel the wind on your face (like when on skis) with the splash of the salt water ... you too may change your mind  !

Another couple of similarities is we "tune" the skis and the sails are "tuned" as well. We all wax our skis and wax the hull too.

In both cases we control gravity and wind for some "fun times".

I have a speed boat but now (getting older) prefer the quiet of a canoe and the thrill of sailing.

Give it a try Tony, I'm sure you will love it :!:

....and don't forget the obsessive watching of weather forecasts! If it's not snow depth, quality & freezing levels It's wind speed & direction

By the way - wasn't it Tony_H who looked like a scuba diver in his last avatar?
The plan is.... there's no plan!

I'm going to let Tony off. He's from Peterborough. Very inland. He had never seen the sea until he was 32.

Salski,

Of course :!: The weather and watching it - the most common element to any outdoor sport :!: How did I miss that one.

It sure looked like SCUBA attire to me too  :!:

Keith,

Just look how unique Tony would be in Peterborough when he told his friends he was going sailing for the weekend. :!:

There were once people visiting NS from Alberta (inland Canada) and we had the famed "Bluenose" lined up for a harbour tour. It lurched at the wharf in a swell and they refused to take the "3 hour tour". We must respect others' concerns..
