I'm thinking it's probably best not to know??

look away now if you don't want to know.......

wednesday, 11th october 2006, wind 56 knots, gale force 11 - me with my boys (9 and 5 at the time) in life jackets on a portside birth, starboard portholes submerged, husband and father in law trying to pull the sails in, jenny(?) in shreds. one boat in our flotilla couldn't turn and was heading out into the med, they were rescued and didn't get back on the boat. another one crashed into rocks and had to change boats, they were back with us the next day.

lots of stories were told in sarsarla that night. one man, who was sitting comfortably with his g and t, described it as sounding like a train coming through the trees. it was very quick and very freaky!

beats sitting on a beach reading a book! :-D

I'll stick to the book on the beach.

Keith,

You are going to have a blast with your new water craft :D:

Should you, by chance, get blown out to sea and as far as Halifax, N.S. - let me know and I'll be very happy to show you around the area :!:

"The Vago comes in two versions one of them has more sail area and a trapeze."

Which version did you go with? If the second is the one, I hope it comes with a seat belt  It will fly. She isn't a canoe - you have a speed machine on your hands.

Have fun,

Mike

Hello Mike,

It's the XD with the big sail, big gennaka and trapeze.

It's scaring the cr*!p out of me at the moment but occasionaly it lifts out of the water and shoots off which is such an amazing sensation. However this is mostly followed by a heart stopper as it suddenly leans back into the wind with both of us still hanging of the side

How did this end up on a skiing forum!?!
:D

Keith,
Anything of a thrilling nature should be fair game in the off season  This boat looks thrilling :!:

The review on your dinghy in Sailing World has all kinds of good things to say about it. They call it a "rocketship" which is "a ton of fun to sail". If you ski with a helmet then you may want to keep it handy for when the boom swings your way.

Arrrggg me hearty - it's time to plot a course for Halifax, in the New World :!:

Congratulations Ellistine on your new purchase - I'm sure you have found a worthy distraction to occupy you during the warmer months. I'm not sure how this discussion has evolved on a skiing forum - but please can I join in? We are off to North Norfolk this weekend to launch our Swift 18. She's not such a blast as your Vago - more like cruising on well groomed pistes rather than back country skiing in deep powder :?

When we are on a ski lift my husband always says 'Ready About'as we approach the final tower & we all say 'Lee-ho'as the bar is lifted. I'm sure there are numerous nautical terms that could be applied to skiing & vice-versa. I know I've capsized numerous times in both dinghies & on skis!!

Do you plan to get into racing? If so, good luck with the rules!

The plan is.... there's no plan!

No plans for racing at the moment. I hear Rule 42 is a popular one!

I'm finding it quite similar to skiing in that it's all about the turns. Going straight is the easy bit.

At the moment the sailing is a lot scarier than the skiing though
