Your last post tells me you should first all sorts of skis. That is all sorts of types; on piste groomers, the "all round type", ( most ski companies now have a chart which indicates target skiing context,,,ie 75% off piste 25 % on piste). Do not believe all marketing, but at least use such chart as a guide.
Then ask yourself what you like to ski in for the next 3-5 years. Rate each ski. It will make you a better skiers since you will have to look for ski's performance range. Be patient and wait till great deal comes by ( and it will ). Enjoy your work. |
Charlie,
No question. Buy skis. Try getting some top level demo skis from last season rather than med level skis. Price will be same. Performance will be best. If you do look for used demo skis, look at; edges out from sidewall at least 4-9 mm. bases have no serious grooves, cuts, holes top ski is uniform ( no de-lamination) binding rails solid Good luck. |
Nearly finished the basement clean up!
Contest will begin in September. To motivate you here is some information about polar fleece jacket. Large men's Has a Heli Skiing logo on back from Alaska ( unique in Europe ) In order to "personalize" jacket I will get the winners name embroidered on front panels. Here are some "rules" and comments. First the main goal of this contest is to have fun and learn about skiing. There are NO trick questions ( one right answer ) One question or picture will be posted every 3 days, thus making this a speed and power contest. You MUST answer via PM mode to me. NOT on general chat mode. First person to get correct answer will get a PM correct answer confirmation. Date and time will be noted in case two person get correct answer on same day. 10 items will be posted of varied types ( true false, objective A,B,C, D, type, short paragraph , picture item identification ,,etc) In consideration of the "power" of search engines no easy definition or easy identification items will be posted. Persons will have to THINK. Persons will have to really earn jacket. Persons will have to have divergent thinking skills. Persons will have to find various sources of information other than Google! Only ONE answer is accepted per person, thus once you post an answer you can not post other answers. One small hint on first item. Since the London Olympics are just over first item will be based on skiing and Olympic policies. Yes skiing has greatly influenced both Summer and Winter Olympics. That is ALL Olympic events. Read up on this topic. Be ready. September. |
A clicker.
In my area of the ski world there is an "energy unit" which is a series of small square pill like units. They are given with a "clicker" holding plastic container which when pressed via a lever makes a "clicK" sound and ejects one square ( of energy ). Children in my family are allowed for each 10 runs,,,one click. Hence "clicker" . If you know anything about Pavlovian Instrumental condition process these are great rewards for great runs. No sugar in units. Several flavors . Melts in mouth in seconds and really does give "energy". That is the "clicker". All children between 5-65 years of age should have one. Great for hikers, campers and "survival" foods. |
On A friend's computer.
Still moving! Still ,,,,, Of course they are not rules,,,,just my views. Are not the British open to "different" strange, unique opinions ? May I comment of the 'respect" of local traditions? Of course you can "parachute in for a week of skiing" ! Meet all the tourist skiers, see all the tourist attractions, bars hot tubes, etc,,," For me meeting the locals, eating with them their food and discovering their skiing places is so much more rewarding. Each ski village, resort has its traditions and they are rooted in past events, people and customs. I learn so much from skiers from different countries. I want to "attract", person to ski, to enjoy this wonderful sport. Never to "put down" this way of life. I do want to allow persons to see another side of skiing , that is away from the " ski marketing image" . Just a few months ago I met a French commercial pilot who can go to any huge ski resorts in the world,,yet he goes to those hidden pearls that do not have huge block concrete units, crowds and more social activity than skiing. Just another side or type of skiing. Centered on skiing. Just skiing. Have great great wines just next door. Have great great restos just a few blocks away. Have friends who constantly come to talk about great ski trips (all summer). but No snow now. No cold air biting on my nose nose No white slopes now. Take skiing to its "essence" it is you, the snow and the mountain. The rest is really secondary. The rules,,,,they are just some observations you may consider to understand my skiing better. Back to the buckets! |
Ranchero,
"Key to any ski trip is not really resort, weather or snow,,,,," Why then go skiing? Why then go on ski site? Friends, good food, good wine, good spa I can get anywhere and I have them . Great ski conditions,,,,that mother nature "rewards me". Sorry but I disagree. A SKI trip is to ski first. Then perhaps other matters as secondary to skiing. As a passing note. Did you all know that more people die in spas and hot tunes than while skiing? Seems they do not wear their helmets while,,,,,,! Seriously Ranchero wine more important than a great run down +40 cm. of soft powder ? |

No.
Poutine is a special very different item that your physician will tell you to never try. It is only found where Eric Guay comes from. I am sure his trainers do not want him to have this. I have it once a year since it is sooooo bad for you. After a day of skiing,,,,,,, ( sometimes ) Certain Canadians will know all about this item. |

Chemmy,
Now if you really want to impress those Canadians ( Jean-Francois Belisle, Erik Guay),,just casually mention in your conversation that you love that "poutine" (pronounced phouteene). You will get a silence from them,,then a great smile and perhaps a hug from Erik since you have told them one of their secrets. Only they know what it is. |
