5 Mistakes 30% of Women Do!!!!
Started by User in Ski Technique, 42 Replies
A comment about the women I ski with.

In all my skiing life I have gone skiing with many women, but I have skied with all day with only three women. Note the all day term!

I am preparing another story about one of these three women! I admire her, I think of her all the time when I ski and she is first and above all a great skier!

My comments about these 5 mistakes, is following my comments about mistakes men do! My training/education has "forced" me to observe people and what they do! Many times their behavior renders me "speechless"!
I just want to share what I observe, in the hope that some skiers will avoid ski sins like bringing in skis into a hoteal lobby or ski lunch area.

When I think I have seen the most dangerous, most idiotic behavior along comes Bandit with a picture of a car with skis sideways,,to out-do my comments! Mike comes out with a story about parents placing young skiers in danger or Ellistine sends me a video with,,,,,,!

Just hope it helps some "new" skier know the unwritten rules and ski manners!

AJ,

My problem. I assumed Dave was "the famous DaveMac"!

Haaaaa Dave,,well he really is the silent man who makes all this run! This site is getting more and more "popular" due to his great work! Notice how spam free it is! Notice how "clean" it is!
I was tired of constantly telling persons to stop being vulgar, loud, etc,,,on another site! He makes the difference!
We should all have a Dave day where we sent emails to his bosses or to people who monitor internet sites!

Dave, I have not forgotten that plane ride! Just keep abreast to the RJ Bombardier new plane. Project is on go! Soon they will be flying promos!

Dave also knows that he has a special place in America for him!
Anytime!
Where do you keep your skis?

Mine are 2 meters away from my "office"!

However I have to hide some in another room since sons are "viewing' several models which I have not yet tested!

This picture is the Summer resting place of most of my skis! Under kitchen floor, (those black bars are broken carbon fiber ski polles)

RoseR,
Had problems understanding your message! "work comittement", what is that?
That word "work",,,how do you do it? Is it painful! How long do you have to do it! Does it interfer with skiing?

Am I too old to try this thing, "work"?

AJ,
He did get a "care" package, however your suggestion is noted and I will send DaveMac a "unique" car sticker which I am sure will stop every skier in his area! It reads, " TAOS,,,a four letter word for steep" This ski center in New Mexico,,(yes New Mexico) is unique in North America! Very very private. very very steep with chutes and runs that most ski resorts would close! Skiers are also unique many post-hippie skiers who founded settlements, stores in the 1960's. Very unique skiers! Also one of the few private owned ski resorts! Look it up!

One of my hidden pearls! Below the ski radar in the world tour scene!

Yes that will provide him with several drinks at local ski pub!

iloveski,
In North America there is some "traditions" in regards to skiing.
Every ski center has a cloth (sew in) patch which you can buy! Some people collect stamps or coins,,,well the fanatic skier collects ski patches.

Also there are some skiers who also collect ski pins. These are metal pins , very much like the Olympic country pins. What you must never but never do is have a chest full of such pins on ski jacket. Worst is to have 20-30 pins on ski hat!

What is cool is one pin from most exotic place such as Chile or New Zealand or the summum of all pins is that small level 4 ski instructor pin which took you 4 years to get! If ever you want a great "entry level" reason to have men/women "approach" you at the bar, wear such exotic pin, just one! Like honey for bees!

Those patches , what do you do with them? Well I have a complete wall in my tune up shop! Each provides memories of great ski days! I have lost some many skis, due to skiers having same ski bag as me and so they take my bag at the airport, that now all my travel ski bags have "unique ski patches" from ski resorts no one knows about! Never lost a ski bag since I posted those patches!

Ilove skiing,
You are very close,,but,,,,

The item that sells the most and has highest profit margin in ski shops in my area are the pins/patches! Second are the lip/sunscreens!

Now for that Ski Expense Report

Goal: To determine how much this activity costs for one season.

Content: All related costs! ALL ( no cheating)

Time: September 1 to end of skiing season!

Mike, I suspect (knowing you) that you have an Excel spreadsheet already! Can you send it to DaveMac (and others who want to participate!

The major expense "headings" might be;
equipement, Travel (car, gas, plane hotel, meals), Support material (magazines, videos, motivational tapes, posters etc..), medical (emergencies, modifications, etc,,), lessons, etc,,,

Please fell free to add headings Iloveski, Mike, DaveMac.

I will not list my expenses since it would not be fair. I am travelling to Utah for one month, then Nevada for another month of skiing! These trips are paid by industry concerns. I will visit my favorite ski area for another 3 weeks at my expense,(then again I get free lifts due to my work)!

I also have 4 trips to Europe to evaluate some new ski centers for a ski touring agency, plus I will be in Middle East for a small project and I always wanted to see snow in the middle of the desert,,, so it would not be "fair" to compare my costs!

Mike is a much more normal "typical" skier! Notice I use quotes on typical Mike! I am a little deviant skier!

AJ,

I have the attitude try it once, then make up mind if it is for you! When I hear people say, "I do not like cheeses, or I do not like wines" , I always ask, "have you tried some"? How can you say you do not like a product or activity if you have not sampled some!

So it is with skiing. I would never now ski in -40 weather,,however I know why because I did it once!

Last year during the new product demo days it was -20c and one fast run caused all cheeks to freeze and nose to get white! The skis were so stiff you could not feel them flex!

No -20c weather is for fireplace chats and walks in woods!

That hot chocolate drink was "special"!
