Ise, tell us about Switzerland.

ellistine I'm sure ise will be along soon to give you a very comprehensive answer :D
I like Switzerland too, and prefer skiing there more than anywhere else. Don't like to talk about it much though, don't want to bring the crowds in :D
Any one been to La Tania

samhay1011 I went to La Tania some years ago. La Tania is linked to Courchevel and the rest of Trois Vallees on skis. You may be able to get a bus from La Tania to Courchevel if you don't want to ski it. There is a Gondola from La Tania up to the plateau above Courchevel, and the run down to Courchevel was either blue or easy red. You may want to have a look at a lift map in case some more lifts have been put in since I was there.
La Tania is small and fairly quiet, with lots of apartment buildings and some chalets in the woods.

The only cheap eating that I found in Courchevel, was a takeaway in the street. This is a resort with Michelin starred ski restaurants. I have memories of paying £20 for hamburger and chips and Coke x2.
The slopes, IMV are pretty flattering in and around Courchevel, and as you get further away from the Prada wearers in 1850 there is more variety and more challenges for all levels.
If you are on a budget then Les Gets will be much, much cheaper!!
What ski`s to buy??

I'm heading out to Zermatt at the end of September. The resort is running quite a few ski testing weekends with an inclusive package available. Brands available for test are Atomic, Blizzard, Dynamic, Dynastar, Elan, Fischer, Head, Nordica, Kneissl, K2, Movement, Rossignol, Salomon, Scott, Volant and Volkl. Got all the paperwork through today :D
I purchased some new skis in the UK a couple of years ago, basing my decision on the write up's in the big retailers' brochures. Never again  , I used them for a week, then sold them on Ebay.

It's just human nature, I defy anyone to climb away from ski area for a few hours, leave the noise of the lifts and the last plank on some fat skis far behind and not think it's the real deal as they drop the skins off, point the skis and head down :D

You're on :D
I'm thinking you're none too keen on those skiers using "fats" either :D
Skiing in April!!!???

hedski wrote:Hi, new to the forum. My girlfriend and I are attempting to go first time skiing this year but the soonest we can both book leave from work is 06/04/07 so we'd be spending about a week off somewhere.
My question is where would still have snow at that time of year? Somewhere near the French border might be easier to get to as flights to Lyon are cheap...ish.
I'm unsure so all suggestions and advice would be appreciated.
Many thanks,
H
:D

Hedski you may want to consider Geneva as a destination airport as well as Lyon. There are lots of charter flights, plus budget airlines as well as scheduled carriers using Geneva, so competition for your booking will be keen. It will still give you plenty of French high altitude resorts, and will add in Swiss and some Italian ones to choose from as well. Don't forget to pack some decent suncream :D

BTW I was skiing in mid April this year in Switzerland and France, down to 1300m. This was supposedly a "bad" winter with "poor" snow cover in the Northern Alps.
Good link, thanks, most enjoyable. I'm going skiing in Switzerland next month, and it won't look anything like these videos :D

Does this mean that it's not real skiing
Ski Boot Heel lifters
Started by User in Ski Chatter, 8 Replies
I'm not entirely sure what you're describing as Heel Lifters? Are these part of the boot structure, or were they inserted by a boot fitter to balance your foot? If it's the latter then any ski shop should be able to help you to replace them. If it's the former, then a call to the supplier/mfr perhaps? I know my boots have a hard plastic "tray" under the liner. This sits loose in the bottom of the boot, is it this that you are describing?
Have a quiet word with the dog in the meantime :D

I am indeed! Seemed to good an offer to miss out on. Orignally it was just myself and my girfriend going, now there are eight of us!

Are you going to?

I'm planning to head out to Zermatt, as they have quite a few offers available. I can't decide between going quite soon, or waiting for the ski test weeks. I hope you have a good time in Tignes :D
