You use the term "footbeds". I have not heard this before. Most sportsmen/persons bottom arch changes shape over time. So if you have a gap under your arch, and buckles clamping the foot down, it isn't difficult to see where pain may emerge.

My boots are standard Raichle, not foamed.

Incredible, maybe brands like Conformable and Superfeet have'nt made it across the border to Scotland. I've been using custom moulded Footbeds since the mid to late 1980's.
1. Buy boots and get them fitted.
2. Thow out dismally floppy peice of plastic made in the vague shape of someone else's foot.
3. Have custom footbed made by variety of methods to support the shape of my foot, and correct pronation/supination whatever.
4. If the foot changes shape over time, ask fitter to re-mould footbed.

Result
1. Comfort
2. Control
3. Support for the structure of the foot.

Warm temps will have made a big difference to the performance of the boot plastic. If you want to stiffen the boot shell, leave the shell outside overnight and take the liner indoors...the next morning will be a different experience, for a while anyway!
If you have a decent footbed inside your boot, it's quite possible to ski with the boot completely undone.
You are rather brave for contemplating taking on the organising and booking for your party. It can be done, not sure if you will save any money over the T.O. offering though.
With your last trip, the things that went wrong landed on the T.O's doormat, if you are the organiser, it will be you that gets the flak. I hope you have lots of patience.

I would suggest that the 1st task is getting the accommodation for your large group, definitely involve the Tourist Office with this.

2nd task is to get the flights sorted, followed by organising a bus transfer for the group, I would suggest that the Tourist Office would be a good source for a bus and driver.

If you are a good organiser, and determined to get the money owed to you paid in on time, it could be fun. Remember though, that you will be taking the place of the Tour Operator, only you won't be ABTA/ATOL bonded!!

Clothing is considered unclean, I believe.

You are quite correct. Swimming cozzies get all sweaty when they get hot, not nice.

It's quite a normal experience if your boots were not fitted properly to start with

I bet they felt quite comfy in the shop :D Depending on how sloppy they are, a decent bootfitter might be able to salvage them.
There has been plenty of discussion about boots on here recently.

In rural Wisconsin, if want want to be thought some kind of pervert weirdo, wear a speedo to a small town beach. I could feel the eyes bulging as I noticed ALL the men and boys were wearing shorts type trunks. Could just imagine the sheriff turning up to arrest me.

In France particularly, Speedo style trunks are mandatory in many public and resort pools. Shorts style trunks are banned. And don't even mention the clothing etiquette for saunas. I can imagine the good folk of rural Wisconsin having a collective embolism over that

Talking of weird things here, a word of warning to those who holiday here. Public urination is a sex offence in many States. There are people who appear on sex offenders list and have to register with the police for the rest of their lives because they took a piss on the way home from the bar.

Trencher

Public urination is pretty well a way of life in France and no-one takes much notice,......which is why the phrase "Don't eat the yellow snow" is really important. Another reason for the habit is some ski resorts facilities charging 1 euro for a P
Not all of Europe adopts the same behaviours (thank goodness) :D

So Trencher, after a good night on the beer.....are you

Careful! You do know he does not use poles!!! Something must be "helping" him keep his balance!

I'm waving nothing at Trencher, but there seems to be an outside chance that he might wave something at me
Well, whatever floats your boat, I guess
