Been flying into Valencia on budget airlines for a number of years.Used to fly there on BA, but they pulled the service. Last year we started seeing empty seats on Thomsonfly, this year they pulled the service-coincidence, maybe. Now seeing empty seats on Easyjet.
Until last year, all the flights we used were pretty full.
It's not really a big touristy airport, so scheduled operators, should not have too many peaks and troughs.

Seven lucky logs wrote:Hi,

I've skied now for about 20 years (only once per each year though) and have always rented skis. However, due to currency rates the cost of one weeks rental at Kitzbuhel this year was 90 GBP which is just ridiculous. So, I've decided it'll be much cheaper to buy a pair.

I love skiing but don't actually "know" much about differences in skis. I would say I'm an advanced skier who is quite happy to ski any groomed run (don't tend to go off piste unless by accident) although I may get a little "untidy" on steeper mogul runs.

If you were me, what would you buy ?

Thanks for your time
Tim

In your situation I would continue to rent. Yes, you can buy a cheap pair of skis. I just purchased a cheap pair of skis (Scott Punisher's). But the difference is, I knew what I was buying.

Ski technology is developing rapidly, unless you put some more weeks under your skis, your owned kit will be behind the times, and you will miss out on the changes that have made skiing more fun and more accessible.

When you can ski the whole mountain, (all of it) start looking at advanced level skis.
Some brands to consider: Movement, Scott, Head, Stockli.
With modern production methods, there are no real "turkeys" for sale on the ski shop racks. Some skis are happier at slower speeds, or have softer construction.
If you are set on buying, buy the model which you enjoyed as a rental. Then you will know how it will perform.
Keep on skiing :D
Pavel. Here's some Scots to show you how it should be done.

:D

Then of course, there's this fella:

He could wax my skis anyday :D

He can ski rather well too )

Pruning Shears??? Someone....anyone, please get this fella a Chainsaw

Much more enjoyable, and so much quicker 8)

Jonny In past years, some of the big T.O.'s have done low season offers for apartments primarily in France. They have priced them up per apartment not per person.
Otherwise, check out the apartments on J2ski, the link takes you to Interhome, so the accommodation is privately owned. This can save you money over the T.O. offerings, though you will be unpackaged and will have to sort out your travel and transfer.
Tony_H wrote:ooooh, now you are talking. Verbier was brilliant in late March/early April this year, if you dont mind the poshoes giving it large all the time.

Pretty well everywhere in the Northern Alps was brilliant this year. One amazing winter should not be viewed as the norm.
Valais is pretty consistently good at that time of year, if you avoid south facing resorts. These, like Crans Montana, will have a shorter season, but more deckchair opportunities 8)
