Yes, definately 14 pairs of knickers, 1 pr for the day and another for dinner. Also 14 prs of socks, 7prs for under ski socks and 7 pairs for dinner. Does,nt every-one

Apparently not  Some of the need for lots of clothes may be explained by the places folks are staying. Personally I don't feel the need to dress for dinner, as it's usually my own cooking, so I may not even bother with any of it

I admire the effort put in though :D

Best that you avoid Ryanair as they don't give a very good luggage allowance, and always collect on the excess )

I'm not a bloke and I take 3 pairs of all my stuff. I prefer to wash them though :D Can't be skiing in yesterdays thermals...noooo
When do you feel it

Trencher, I think over in the UK, we have had such a weird summer, that we won't necessarily feel a change. It's August Bank Holiday today, and I'm wearing a fleece in the house..... with a T shirt underneath.....and long trousers. Not had to water the garden this summer, and my 2x220 litre garden water butts are full up. The leaves are already falling from the trees. The overly cheerful weather woman on TV yesterday announced highs of 18c  Possibly the worst aspect of this summer is the grey skies. So it would seem that this side of the pond we will slip into an autumn, which will look remarkably like summer.

Lynn_D wrote:I’ve already spent a fortune this summer as I’ve invested in my first pair of boots and skis. The problem is, they’re propped up in the living room and every time I walk past them they keep shouting “use me!!” The idea of summer skiing is looking all too tempting. Still, only another 4 months to go. )
I still need a bag to put them in, a new jacket (as the zip is broken on my old one) and probably another set of thermals. Oh, and a new woolly hat that doesn’t flop over my eyes… I can sympathise with skigirl who has just bought a horse though - mine eats me out of house and home!!! Why did I have to choose two such expensive pastimes?

An hour or two a snowdome would give you some peace and quiet, and let you test out your new kit in a fairly mundane environment :D
Anything by ABBA..perfect :D
Sorry, you raised the thread within a section of the forum called "Avalanche Safety". Me Bad.
Of course the fact remains that there is no Zero on the recognised chart. If there was a status of zero risk, then these "experts" would have created the chart to recognise this.

1. I did not say anywhere that I was advised not to carry a probe. That is your presumption. So, Really - you don't have to worry about avoiding anybody.

You failed to mention the "Holy Trinity" in your original post. then when asked about it you actually said:

I did not mention probes because vacationers rarely carry them, although as I said - as much equipment as you can.

Yes - ABS - but not the sort you get in your car.....

which of course is not true, at least in any part of Europe where I have skied off piste with others, either with or without a guide. You said that you had consulted experts.Perhaps you could name them and list their qualifications so that folks who read this thread can make their own minds up.
Perhaps you are American and you should really be posting here:

5. If I need a course - I will surely take one. One course I do not need though, is one telling me to take a course. If, as you say, nobody is an expert, and you choose to make rude comments about my abilities to outline an area sofar not covered here, then maybe you can do better

Every mountain professional that I have encountered has felt the need to take regular mountain skills training, studying snow, avalanche conditions, meteorology, effects of wind, search, rescue et al. Clearly you feel that such study is something you don't feel you need. That's fine, each to their own. No-one here has made any rude comments about your abilities, and quite frankly if they read the thread, they will likely feel as I do that further discussion is pointless.

Ta ta
:D
If you post the images on this site (but not huge photos) then folks can see if they are as good as you say. Does seem like a lot of money though. For example I paid £200 for some Dynastar Legend 8000 with Rossi Scratch bindings, which had 2 weeks use. IMV a good quality ski. Did you cut the Colltex skins yourself?
