MY OH uses T5 regularly, and says the problems that plagued the opening weeks are over. That's not to say they won't have others. He takes carry on. Online check in works fine, the fast bag drop is generally a case of joining the queue with B.A. (anywhere) , then taking your skis to a different drop area for outsize bags, so queue 2x IME. Wrap your skis well, label destination inside and out.

Food at T5 reported as rather good. Shopping is usual BAA daft stuff. Staying o/n it should be a breeze.

Oh, I have read it over the years, but really don't understand why folks buy it year on year. Not much changes in the Alps, apart from the occasional lift being put in and glaciers always on the move.

Unless you know something I don't?

Nah..not likely
Resort for a smooth skiing experience

Hi Leo N and welcome :D To find a resort which meets all your criteria will take some research. For example, St Anton is a big, big resort, so lots of the holiday accommodation is not close to a lift, but on the upside, being a big resort it has lots of skiing and nightlife. Obertauern is quite a small resort by comparison, but it's high and is pretty well ski in/out.
If you fancy that area of Austria, Lech/Oberlech may meet your needs.

Both St Anton and Obertauern have a reputation for being pricey, but for different reasons. Austria does not seem to do ski in/out much, and I guess that is down to the resorts being real places and not (mostly)French ski factories.
Crans Montana is good for blue and red grade slopes, with plenty of easy routes down, and has good access from Geneva.
Also, you may want to consider resorts in the Portes du Soleil, some are high ski/out like Avoriaz, and some traditional villages.
Exciting

I never understood why the passport control was so close to the runway there. We always end up standing out in the cold at Innsbruck.

I feel that I should point out that the comment above is not mine, but Rose's'

Everyone that has bought this book, why do you buy it? Is it ski porn? The resorts are in the same place as last year?
