I would not go to Font Romeu in December too risky. Ganvalira El Tarter area is my best recommendation.

Best resorts in the Pyrenees are Baqueira Beret www.baqueira.es (Spain) and Garanvalira (Andorra)http://www.grandvalira.com/en
I've skied in both. In Granvalira was last year. Where to stay?
Apartmentos Multipropiedad in Baqueira walking distance to slopes and in Granvalira I recommend staying in Soldeu or El Trater.
I hope this can help.

Roast pork with apple sauce, crackling, 8 roast potatoes, cabbage with vinegar, broccoli, carrots & bisto gravy.

Come on Brooksy ! How can you ski after having loaded all that, man?

Pasta is best for skiers add carbohydrates easy to digest.
Also Rösti with eggs in Celerina. Mmmm!

Local Ski Instructors

You can hire private lessons for one hour or more at any "official" ski school in the Alps or Pyrenees where most of the ski instructors are " locals". The only exception is Andorra where they don't have a big amount of ski intructors to cover the season and the have to contract ski intructors from abroad most of them from Argentina and Chile.

Hi biki17,
3rd week of March?
Go to a high resort like Avoriaz - Portes du Soleil )
Rob
Hi Khjr,
I agree with what is written above.
This year there are a lot of snow in the Alps but, when in March?
In late March there may be little snow on the lower slopes in some resorts. Megeve for example. But in Les Contamines or Chamonix no problem. A tip: If you do Chamonix, La Vallée Blanche is a must. www.chamonix-guides.eu

Skiing in Encamp

Hi there,
I was skiing in Grandvalira 2 weeks ago. Encamp is not a bad place to stay but I do not think you are able to ski down to town. I think there are no slopes.
I was skiing in Canillo that is the town above Encamp. From Portella to El Forn by Rosignol slope the snow was very good.
I stayed at El Tarter which has good connections to all slopes.Best snow is Grau Roig
If shopping is within your plans then Encamp is a short drive to Andorra La Vella but I recommend staying at El Tarter or Soldeu if skiing is the most important thing of you holidays.

I was skiing in Grandvalira from 10 to 20 February. From the latest snowfalls the runs were very good and we had powder. Pas could be a little hard some times because the wind.
If the wind is to strong go to Grau Roig Piolets ski area.It is protected and there are pine trees. Then have a Schnapps at Pessons :P
