It may be worth contacting these folks..

http://www.skisolutions.com/about/index.cfm

They have been around as an agency for many years and have an A La Carte dept which may provide you the holiday you want without the hassle of booking it all. It's an ABTA and ATOL bonded co.

I have not used their service and don't benefit from suggesting them.

Most of the big Tour Ops can organise a private transfer for you. At the luxury end of the budget, Inghams offer a luxury ski collection. Alternatively Mark Warner or Scott Dunn may be able to help.

I'm not convinced that sitting up all night in a Eurostar seat would be my idea of a romantic start to a ski trip, but everyone is different!

BTW I'm not a Mr :D

Bandit - It maybe reflects the excellent season Europe is having on the snow front. And maybe less experienced skiers being seduced off piste by the conditions.

I usually crank up the bindings for my off piste forays. I know its not ideal and may result in an injury, that is why I'm on the lookout for leashes of some description.

We differ then, I made no adjustments to my DIN, and lost no skis in the pow. I guess it's personal choice together with the approach to the hill. The guy in the local ski shop reckoned that I would suffer pre-release on 5.5 and wanted me up at 6. I bet him a beer, I won.
Salomon charts reckon that I should be setting my DIN at 4.5 for the 912.ti binding which we were betting a beer over. :D

I'm not sure which ski train you will be using, if it's the one which serves the Tarentaise resorts, then you will have a horribly long transfer to places like Combloux and Megeve.

Some (if not all) of the high altitude resorts on your list will be heaving with folks during mid Feb, plus IMV they lack ambience.

It may be worth avoiding a country which has it's peak periods when you want to go, which means checking out when the locals are on their hols.

Of all the places on your list, probably Combloux will be the most authentic, and Megeve will be the most chic.

I need to insure a family of 4 (nephew has own insurance)

We will be hireing equipment (through skiset for which I have already taken out extra insurance with) We will also be in ski school.

We are not planning on doing anything more dangerous than skiing and toboganning.

So....when I am looking for insurance what exactly is it that I am looking for. When I was searching some compare sight one of them gave me the option of search and rescue, while the others said N/A

Karen

Karen, I personally would not choose to use the comparison sites for this as they may not give you enough detail.

Two insurers worth checking out are:

Insure and Go who are caron-a's favourite co

Direct Travel (who offer pretty comprehensive cover for skiers, at very fair prices)

It's really important that you get search and rescue cover, as this is the category that gets you taken care of if you are injured or lost. Costs can be the size of a mortgage if you are not insured.

Also check the small print for the inclusion of Tobogganing, some insurers have the view that it's a pretty dangerous pastime, and they see too many claims.
