Snow report - Les Aravis
Started by User in France, 1 Reply
Excellent! Snowing steadily right now after a day skiing fresh snow under mostly blue sky. Much of last weeks (knee-to-thigh deep) powder is now skiied out (we did our bit on Sunday!) but there are still pockets to be found and most of the off-piste is still soft even where chopped up.

Sunday was busy, yesterday (Monday) notable for the significant number of locals (including an impressive number of senior citizens - way to go!) out enjoying the conditions.

Now, we have an appointment with the (off)piste. 8)
If anyone is flying into Geneva late Saturday (5th March, arriving GVA after 10pm) and then heading for Verbier... please let me know! Many thanks... ?!
Max, sounds great - cant make it myself (this time!) but if you have some decent pictures we can post those up on the news page for you? Have things quietened down after half-term yet?
Getting to La Thuile from Turin

Hi Danny, I believe there is a regular bus service between Turin airport and Courmayeur - but not sure about La Thuile as it's a little further off the autoroute.

If a hire car is an option you might find the price surprisingly competitive and you will have more flexibility that way.

Best bet is probably to call the Tourist Office direct on +39 0165 884179

When are you going? The snow looks good right now!
Starting Out

My wife and I are coming to Les 2 Alpes 27 Febuary – 6 March and would like to have skiing lessons. We have never skied before but we don’t want to spend all week (6 days x 2hrs) learning. Is it possible that we can learn over 3 days?

Thank you,
Stephen

Verbier Snow Report

Spies report around a meter of fresh snow over the past few days, though much of the mountain is out of bounds (the main area is open only below Ruinettes)... and the town's fit to bust with half-termers! 8)

Look for some classic riding when the weather clears...
proper stance in moguls?
Started by User in Ski Technique, 5 Replies
If the moguls are tightly packed, then a feet-tight-together stance will work best. I'm certainly no expert but try to keep the back straight - absorb the bumps with your knees rather than your back.

One of the most helpful tips I've had was "elbows out", as described by Warren in our Ski Technique section. That helps you keep your hands / poles in closer.
Ok, I guess:

- mountain biking for aerobic fitness + leg strength/stamina.

- roller blading?

- swimming for overall fitness but what about the legs???

- stepper machine in the lounge! ;)

Any opinions? What do you do when away from the mountains?
