Cold fingers!!

You could try some more layers.

You can get silk inner gloves to wear under ski gloves (not sure where to get them in uk but most big shops in ski resorts should have them), and you can also get "over mits" - just big mittens with an elasticated cuff - to wear over your normal gloves.

The advantage of both these is, of course, that you can vary the number of layers to suit conditions - e.g. just pop the mittens over your gloves before you get on the lift, etc.

Also, it's worth carrying a spare pair of gloves - even a slightly wet glove will lost heat quickly, so you could have a spare dry pair to swap with part way through the day.

Finally, make sure the seal between your sleeve and the glove is good - a lot of heat can get out there (especially if snow gets in). One of our regulars (Trencher?) made the excellent suggestion of wearing a tennis wrist-band to help here.

Some "technical" jackets have an inner glove attached to the sleeve and this works very well, so if you're in the market for a new jacket that might be a feature for your check-list.

peteward15 wrote:Thanks Admin Man. Any updates on the forecasts or do they only come once a week. I'm still suffering from Forecastitous!

Our forecasts are updated daily, usually first thing and the condition reports update through the day as we get the data in.

So just bookmark http://www.j2ski.com/snow_forecast/France/Les_Gets_snow.html and check it daily!

Looking pretty good for next week.

I reckon. It's looking like fairly wet snow at resort level but you should definitely go prepared - only a slight lowering of the temperature in the forecast will put a lot of snow on the roads for Saturday. Time your driving to avoid the worst of the rush / worst of the snow if you can.

It's coming... the Snow Forecast for Chamonix over the next week is looking better by the day. Let's hope it holds.

Looks like Snow in Soll tomorrow and a bit more next week - but keep your fingers crossed the temperatures stay down... you'll be ok.
Les Deux Alpes

Our latest Snow Report for Les Deux Alpes shows depths of 25 and 110 cm (lower and upper slopes respectively)... but the interesting bit is the LDA Snow Forecast (being updated now) - if you're going next week you're going to have freshies by the looks of it! 8)

Enjoy!
Once more courtesy of WetterZentrale, here is the ensemble forecast for Vienna.

Upper set of lines is forecast temperature (degrees C - left axis) according to different runs of the models (each line a different run). The bold white line is the average of all the model runs, the bold red line is the historical (30 year) average.

Lower set of lines is forecast precipitation (snow cm - right axis).

So where the upper lines dip below zero and the lower lines rise... that's when the snow will come.
