My mentor skied until he was 110!
He is a legend in my part of ski land having; -opened ski trails to masses -promoted outdoor skiing since 1960's -created yearly skiers meetings -taught me how to camp out in winter His name ( given to him by the local trappeur indians) Jack Rabbit because he moved about on his skis so fast! The trick is to keep fit. Ski everyday. Eat fresh foods. Think young. He beats all other skiers I know! Now I ski with his girl who is a Director of a Wildlife Reserve near my home! I ca hardly keep up with her! Pavel |
In the skiing world, we talk about "classics" like classic cars. The XKE, The Datsun 240, the Austin-Healy 300 , Porsche 911.
The ski is a classic even before it is known by the general public. Trust me,,heaven is coming fast to you! You will have a smile that will last well after your skiing trips! Friends will beg to try them ( refuse) Let them suffer! Enjoy ever second with them! |
Ha,,,,,,,,things that remind me of skiing!
Do you have a minute or two ? Like Dave Mac I have a great great view of skiing which welcomes me every morning as I touch "base" with fellow skiers all over the world. Every morning where ever I am I walk , several kilometers before sun rises! There is a time when the morning air is "nippy", sharp and cold. Thoughts come to mind which you all do not want to know! Freedom, wind, soaring. Some women think that exotic perfumes will "attract" all men! Me,,it is that smell of melting wax. Instantaneously my brain triggers neurons firing like a "fireworks display" ! Feelings, thoughts, images all flood my imagination. Finally when I can not stand it anymore, I put on my boots, my ski jacket, ski gloves and slowly walk to my butcher. He knows what will happen since I have been doing this for years. He just looks at me,,,,,opens the giant freezer and lets me in for 15 minutes of quiet cold "spiritual" contemplation of events past and events to happen! I exit ready to wait another week or so ! |
Bandit's suggestion is right on the mark!
It is your call chin to nose with this consideration. If you are fit, active person who does all sorts of other sports and "progress" well in term of competence, then tend to go for nose level! Other variables are also suggested by others. Yes the "cut" or ski design should be considered. That is that R=,,,,, number ! Are top level SL ski has a R=13. That is it is very responsive and has a tight turn ability! Just wiggle your ears at it will turn! Not sure if you would want such a ski yet! Hope this helps you ! |

Yes ,,ski theft is on the increase!
Yes you must watch at all times your skis! First the one error all skiers are told. Separate skis when going in chalet ! Wrong!!!! If you have great skis,,,smart robbers will wait at base. Watch you place one ski,,,then follow you to next placement! I often have 4-6 pairs to test so I always place them near lift attendant and since I bring a bottle of wine with me at beginning of season,,,,my skis are safe! When I must leave skis at top ( to compare lines of various skis) I have made myself a 1meter wire loop which can go into a ski brake. I can lock 3-4 pairs of skis around a tree or fence ! Here is another "hint" ! Never place your skis with all others against wall, fence or table! My skis are always away from all others and away from traffic flow! So person has to walk alone, away from crowds to my skis which are on snow bank away from crowd flow! One last point. If you have great skis, never place them in your parked car in full view while you are inside drinking! I have a Thule. Cover your skis if inside your car. Many car windows have been shattered,,just for the skis! Hope this helps you! |
Many "marketing" points to sell "new" miracle ski design!
Will take just one false point! Buying "rocker" skis for beginners because less "grab" less carve at tips! All you have to do on modern skis is too dull INSIDE tip edges ! Cheaper ! Notice how all ski companies are "marketing" rocker skis for all sorts of levels and conditions! I am skiing on Blizzard's Cochise,, perhaps one of the very best easy rockers and I must be honest on hard packed fast fast slopes my Head Supershapes are much better. Be careful not to be "taken" by marketing messages! |
First those are very special skis! I hope you know the "history" behind their production!
These skis can not be classified in any "traditional" grouping! Very fast turning skis! Easy to ski on soft soft surface! Do not lean back on that narrow tail!!! On first runs go to easy easy slopes since these skis have unique "performance" parameters! Enjoy length. To answer your question they will be easier to ski,,after you have taken the time to learn about what they can do! |
Who needs snow anyway? (Wickers - look away now - contains scenes of ski abuse)
