I try to balance the pressure from the power strap and the cuff buckles to even out the pressure on my shins. Too much on just the power strap can hurt after a while. On some boots the lower cuff buckle does seem to have some effect on the stiffness of the boot and gives a little adjustability.

The steeper the slope, the harder it is to carve turns and still control speed. Head to easy slopes to work on carving. |
but just think of the accolades had she pulled it off. I think it's great that the snowboarders don't take it all so seriously.

A big problem with rental skis for people new to skiing is whether the skis are serviced and tuned. Look at the base. It should look and feel silky/waxy. The structure should be evident - like a linear finger print along the PTex base. The steel edges should be able to remove a layer of finger nail when it is scraped across at 45 degrees. Running your finger down the edges, there should be no burrs or rough spots. Slightly wider skis (74 to 82 waist) may feel more comfortable at low edge angles (slow speeds) as at any angle, the raised edge will be higher off the snow. |
anytime that's your view in the morning has to be a good day |
There are problems right across the US at the moment - no snow. The US weather systems are mainly determined by the jet stream, and it's been stuck in a bad pattern for some time. It looks to be moving now though. Many places have been much warmer and dryer than normal. There are a few exceptions, but I've heard of ski areas laying off their seasonal staff and running with just their year round employees. Anyway, a lot can happen in a month (I hope). http://www.weather.com/life/ski/snowreport/Breckenridge+CO+77:11 http://www.weatherimages.org/data/imag192.html |
It's not so much terrain that determines the flex needed, as your ability to flex the boot. Although your ankles may feel locked in ski boots, they do need to flex. More advanced skier can flex a stiffer boot. This allows them to put more pressure on the ski. If a boot is too stiff, you won't be able to move forward and your technique will suffer. If your boots(and binding ramp angle) are set up right, you should be able to feel yourself standing on your whole foot and be able to flex the boot a little.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune. It might help your confidence to use Knee Bindings. They have an extra plane of release compared to other bindings.
