Chris N, From your own description of events events, you are entirely at fault. You said you were straight lining, and the other skier was carving turns. You must have been "up hill" from the other skier immediately prior to the collision. That's the rule we have to follow. Sometimes it's a pain, having to slow down, or stop. Again from your description, you saw that the other skier was likely to enter your path. At that point, you were uphill of the other skier, but chose to continue straight lining to maintain speed.
I wish you a speedy recovery. Please though, don't say it wasn't your fault. BTW. It is customary in the US for skiers to jump the queue if joining other members of their group who are waiting in line. |

There are a few Antipodeans on the BOL forum who might be able to help.
http://forums.bomberonline.com/forum/61-australia-and-new-zealand/ Otherwise, Alpine snowboarding is very popular in Korea and japan, with several manufacturers there. If you search the BOL forum, there are a few ski boots that work. Nobody (there's always a few exceptions though) rides asyms anymore. Alpine snowboarding has changed a lot in the last ten years. You might want to do some research before buying anymore gear. |
Even if you can turn off the screen in front of you, you still might have to endure a screen playing ads next to you. Maybe they'll have a separate lift line for no screen people. It would certainly be deal breaker for me in choosing where to go.

Increased knee injuries related to higher binding settings?

I think man made snow is generally less prone to becoming icy, especially if additives have been added to the water.
I don't know if there are more or less accidents these days, but two aspects of skiing have changed significantly in the last twenty years. The expectations of what is possible on skis is beyond anything imaginable twenty years ago. On one level, in the terrain parks we see kids routinely doing stuff that was just for the X-games not so long ago. In more conventional skiing, Years ago, a Warren Miller film, or the occasional view of a really good skier on the slopes were all we had to aspire to. These days we can watch endless hours of high performance skiing on youtube, with the result that we are pushing ourselves to be better skiers like never before. The other thing that has changed on the slopes is the turn shape resulting from more carved turns. I think this is becoming less of an issue, as people have become more used to expecting longer, more rounded turns from others. I don't think helmets are a direct factor, just a consequence of people skiing at higher levels. |
Salilsurendran, If the pain is greater when you are skiing than when doing other activities, you might consider seeing a boot fitter. It may be that your set up - boots, and bindings is not putting you into a good position. A good boot fitter may actually deviate from a set up that puts you into the best skiing position, to one that accommodates the limitations of your back.
