I recently met a 76 year old lady who is learning to ski. She is taking up skiing to spend more time with her new husband who is an avid skier.
Anyone have some advice......?

My wife is just the same and i wouldn't dream of buying her some new planks.

Remember it's all about having fun. These new skis just make it easier for non aggressive skiers to feel in control. If skiing is more fun and easier, they will learn faster.

Rossignol Alias (or Avenger) 74. You should be looking for a ski with an early rise tip (tip rocker) which makes the ski easier to turn and with less effort. I've spoken to a lot of novice skiers who really like this ski.

(7) Your first big crash. Ski bindings really work you know! Don't twist anything or smack into anything more solid than you are and chances are you'll be none the worse for wear.

It's fun to be a kid again :D

There are no red runs in the US. Green, blue, (double blue sometimes), black, and double black. Green is a round symbol, blue a square, and black a diamond. At the top of all lifts is a piste map, and very often a mountain guide. The mountain guide is there to advise you on the runs and work out combinations of runs, or a route down that you can manage.

I have some rodeo heavy weight thermals from about twenty years ago. I still use them occasionally for kayaking.

Just wait several years. At the high school invite race this year with maybe about twenty teams competing, a seventh grade girl won. She beat out all the 12th graders. This is on the hill where Vonn started racing.

You know, I think I would benefit greatly from having half a dozen coaches with me when I go skiing. Just imagine at the top of every run, a guy comes up and wipes your ski bases with special stuff. Another wipes your goggles, and gives you a sip of something nice. I could get used to that.
