Need someone to reinvent it then. |
The leki system is popular with racers who really don't want their grip to slip while poling at the start. Bearing in mind Pav's comments, it would be nice to have a graduated release system for pole straps like the DIN values on bindings. Or (and I claim this idea) a release that holds when pushing down with poles, but releases when pulled upwards if the pole snags.

You guys are not around much ski racing then  |
At below -20 mittens are the sensible choice. Sheepskin mittens are common for race coaches who have to stand around a lot of the time. |

Here's an news video on the Washington avalanche and interview with the air bag user. Near the end of the interview she talks about the risk that day.

One test for alignment is whether you can easily swish the tails of your skis side to side (while weight forward) without having to pick one ski up. If the tail edge of one or both skis seems to catch, something needs to be changed. This doesn't necessarily mean you will need canting; there are other things a boot fitter can do to the shell of a boot to flatten your skis, but stopping the foot from pronating is a first step. |
This type of story is somewhat more common than stories about people surviving falls because they were not wearing a helmet. I really don't think that is going to change, so there will never be the balance that some people are looking for. As Admin said, get used it.

It's normal to have to read American English (esp. from news rooms) in an interpretive way, rather than literally. Example- "I could care less", when "I couldn't care less is meant". It's very frustrating at times. It's common for people to cite divine intervention in news stories. |
