Met this wonderful skier while on ski holiday. Just wanted to thank her publicly for her kind words and help in guarding my ski equipment. Such wit and "sharp" intellect is rare these days.

It made my day to meet you, thank you.

Wish that more skiers were were like her!

See you in Saddleback!

Just back from some testing some prototype skis and have some scopes for you!

There are some amazing skis coming down the production line in the coming years!

One ski truly impressed the testing team.

Here are some features of this ski!

First however I want to thank my skiing partner for the help in getting all this info you!

This ski ( it has no name yet, but we at the testing center call it SKI U for ultimate) really departs from traditional skis and is more oriented in marketing and design to cars.

First it has a basic design core as all skis but then you can buy "options" which add on to this core to increase your personal skiing desires. Thus this ski has a modular design allowing for personal graphics, personal performance tuning and personal "messaging" possibilities.

Unfortunately we could not get all the options features since the design teams had not yet produced all the various options that will be offered! We did however see the "interface" methods which will be used for wireless sound, wireless biofeed-back responses and various safety features!

The U has a traditional wood core with three types of sidewalls which can be angled inward to modify the ski performance. Its side cut is the new "hybrid" model with a radical SL in front and GS at back. A more tame model will come out in 2011!

The anti-vibration plate has a new design in which it can also move 4 cm. fore and aft again to modify the ski performance and it allows all types of bindings with a alu-carbon fiber sheet metal top skin straight from the aerospace industries!

Now for the truly unique features of this ski.

Let us start at the top.

1. The top ski has a new mylar/plastic /plasma layer which generates graphics at will. You can via a wireless controller (which is also controlled via MP3 unit) change the graphics very much like modern car radio screens.
It seems ( it is not yet operational) this "screen" can change while you are skiing to sycronize with your skiing type or to music. Yes music!!! Heavens the Iski like the Iphone and Ipod! Where are we going!!!!!

Seems the ski industry has mated with the sound engineers to create the first IPOD/ IPHONE type ski. Via a boot interface you can download songs in your boots which will then send messages to the top ski for graphic changes!!! Imaging!!!!

The most impressive new option which is now installed is a GPS unit in the central core of the ski! According to engineers it does not effect the ski performance but allows many new skiing experiences!

Here are some;
- WHEN SKIS ARE STOLEN YOU CAN TRACK THEIR LOCATION
- while skiing you can via a resort card ( bought at base resort) get exact trail location, trail type , trail condition. All this information is posted on the top skin of the ski.
- your skiing speed, skiing elevation, skiing temperature is also determined and posted on the tip of the skis.

2. The U SKI also has some great safety features. They are;
- at tails you can have tine but powerful LED lights which indicate turning direction.
-with trial sensors and trail beams ( which will be posted in all ski centers in 2010) the ski will flash red ( on top skin) when you enter an "expert" run
, a blue light will flash when you ski a beginner run.

The GPS unit also sends a ,message to any specific hotel room so that parents can tell where their children are skiing. Wifes will also know where husband is!

-at tips there are some safety bags which will inflate in .oo5 seconds if ski registers impact pressure or sudden decrease in speed.

3. The performance feature which really impressed the testing staff was the variable bevel binding unite.
In the past all skis had bindings set on the ski top ski and it was the boots and skier which angled the skis to "carve" the ski.

Ski engineers do read the posts on this site and are aware of the concerns skiers have about "carving"!!!!!!

The U SKI has tiny "plungers" or pistons which can angle the ski binding platform so that the skis can go on "edges" in a predetermined fashion.
A skier can set a dial via a wireless controller so that this platform while angle the skis with a GS, SL or variable ski style. More on this in later posts!!!!

4. A very innovative and brilliant option is the biofeedback possibility. A tiny ( at nano level) sensory provides information in sole of boot ( at big toe area) on how your body is doing while you ski. This is real time.
Thus if you and the ski are in sync you get a pleasure filled vibration!
If you sit back or do the famous body rotation turn you get a small electric shock!
If your heart goes too fast or blood pressure goes to high the top skin of the ski flashes " STOP STOP " and tip bags may blow up!
They are planning to have some form of "retro" brakes in 2015 which will under pressure eject a "glue like" substance via the semi-permeable ski base to stop the ski. It can also allow parents or spouses to "dial in" the maximum ski speed allowed on a given day. I tried this option with my skiing partner since he was skiing at "sound barrier speeds" and it did not work! I suspect they will have to do more work on this "retro-brake" In the case of my fellow testing partner all I got was a "fume and smell" from the
ski base and no speed reduction. Seems at the speed of sound the liquid ejected from base vaporizes instantly!!!! I had to use the old technique of yelling, """"slow down"""""!!!!!!

5. An option which is not for all skiers but is geared more for the "competitive skiers" is the "turbo wax" feature! A tiny spray nozzle, very much like the Mercedes engine ejectors, are positioned at the lower tip of the ski. When you want to get a "boost" of speed in the flats, a press of the ski pole handle will activate ( via wireless system) a spray of wax on ski base. We were told that in 2020 you will be able to have variable wax options ON THE GO!!!
Unfortunately now we has just one type of wax spray! I tested this option while skiing with a friend and sure enough I passed him with a 10% speed burst! You should have seen his face as I waved to him while he was in the tuck!

There are many other features which we noted but I am still colatting all the testing results. I just want you in this site to get the "scoop" on this unique ski. I will post all the other features later.

After the testing sessions with did meet the design engineers and they told us that they are still in the "soft" stage of developpement of this ski, thus are open to your needs. Money does not seem to be a problem since this is a consortium of electronic, car and ski companies so we ask you the "real" skiers to provide options you would like to see in this ski!

Post your needs here! Forget the technical barriers, we have engineers for that, just give us your needs!

Have fun!!

Cheers from Pavel!
2008 skis
Started by User in Ski Hardware
Well I have just finished sampling some new skis and my the 2008 versions are hot!!

The big news for all ski companies next years are the "hybrid" ski. All companies are "twiking" their skis to find a skiers niche.

You will notice that all racing skis are "toned down" that is most of marketing is no longer geared to these skis. This is because such skis are so performance oriented and few skiers can really ski them. Few skiers buy these skis.

The hybrids ( all ski companies have them) are skis with a de-tuned SL front and a GS rear section. This allows very fine, responsive turns, yet allows some "play" and stability at rear for turn outcome!

The two skis that really impressed me as far "above the average" are the Head WC Slalom and the Fischer WC Slalom.

I love fast responsive skis and if you know me I ski on Atomics 12, These two skis will challenge the 12,s.I find myself going back to the Heads!!!!

Very very very stable yet ready to turn with the smallest knee action!

Salamon has a new skis called Aero which is a very light yet performance ski. It is geared to top level women skiers. I liked it silky smooth ride. But the second you got "aggressive" with tight hard turns, it could not "carry" me. It gave out!!! If you are a women with desire for speed do not buy this ski!

Hope this helps some of you!

We need to break the 100 uses record.

Come on everyone. Think outside the box!!!

Just some 30 more uses.

79. To plant seeds

80. To check snow depth

81. To make chimes with cut pieces

82. To scratch back while on chair.

83. To take snow off tops of skis while on chair

84. To tape ice off wires above chair lift

85. To take bindings off

86. To dull too sharp edges

87. To create a Slalom course

More and more.....
Cold fingers!!
Started by User in Ski Hardware, 7 Replies
To sove the problem of cold fingers and cold feet you must understand that the "body heat" is maintained by having a "warm body core" !

That is you must have effective underwear and layers. Assuming that is not problem, then most skiers have "circulation" problem.

Warm core blood flows to fingers and toes. If you have poor circulation you must "help" the body maintain warm blood.

The silk gloves is an excellent option.

I know you do not like heat packs in gloves, but you can place them near wrists just near artery and veins. You can also place heat packs near chest and arm pits, thus warm blood will flow to fingers.

You can also "pre-heat" gloves. Since all gloves have an inner sleeve, just blow some warm air into gloves using a small hair dryer just before you go to ski. This warm air will stay in the glove at least 3 hours.

Take "warm-up breaks" and repeat this.

Never take gloves off once outside.

Tuck all "interface zones" in. ie sleeves, cuffs, neck, zippers pockets etc...

On chair tuck your gloves under arms thus sharing body heat.

Drink warm tea every 45 minutes.

Inside glove curl fingers towards palm while in chair.

My son has some great Chinese "hot liquid" which he massages on legs at end of day. Once I took some in morning to test. My fingers were "toasty" hot all day. DO NOT TOUCH FACE once you use this liquid. Very hot!!!!!

Side effect of the Chinese liquid is you smell like a Rugby player!!!!

Insert ( one in a while) your hands into the inner linners of your wife's or husbands jacket while on life. Be aware of strange looks you will get!!!

Do not blow warm "air" into the gloves !!! ( with mouth)

Just before you go to ski, go to batkroom and soak hands into warm-hot warm! Sprinkle baby powder into gloves just before you put gloves on.

Get IPOD and play some Beach Boys surfing music!

Hope this helps.
Ladies "permission form "
Started by User in Ski Chatter, 3 Replies
I have not forgotten all you ladies waiting for the famous "permission form"!

I had asked 5 lady skiers to modify the male permission form and after several meetings and drafts they rejected the male form!

They are now writing a new female based form which they promised me will cause quite a stir!!!! They would not allow me to see even a first version. All I hear is giggles, low,,no very low voices and then more laughter!

I will post their form once I pass it via this site's administrators since we do not want to offend all the males on this site.

Keep looking!!!

5 Unpardonable ski sins

The correct behavior if you are in a quad chair is to let others go by and get on next couple or trio.

Think of others waiting in line.

Most "thoughtful" skiers plan ahead and if you are alone look for a trio before the lift.

Try it!
