Thank you for information.
Will keep you posted as I use the app while I ski. Will send you every week or so information about its "acceptance" in my group skiing right now in NZ. . Can you provide email address? Does it have Ipod potential? Can it be inserted in some GPS models? Can it detected some modern "sensors" some ski resorts are now planting in their slopes? Can it "detect" WIFI sensors some ski companies are inserting into ski core? |
Mike,
As I told you previously, you have a unique way to answer or to post answer answer since you give me 2-4 choices ( of course embedded is the correct answer). In your case the first response will be the one I will consider "correct". I am hoping others will not discover your technique since it will give me sleepless nights. Enjoy August ! By the way Mike,,,have you seen the movie August Rush? If not rent video since it will explain what I said to you about 'listening to music while I ski" ! Note for the "others",,I ski without earplugs since I hear music while I ski,,,,,, very much like the little boy in the movie . Go see movie and you will be a better person, better parent and much much better skier. Trust me. |
Ha,,,,,August near end of Summer yet far away from snow flakes.
I want to help you all get past the famous skier's August blues. I am having the August Blues Contest in order to sharpen your skier's minds. To sharpen those sensory neurons. To awaken your skier's mind. To make you more observant while skiing. To see those objects, tools, etc,,,,that you never see. On the second week of August, I will post an item every third day. Person can send me the answers via my PM and I will note answers. First person who obtains correct answer will get a point. Again DO NOT post answers on general chat site ( unless you want others to win ). A total of 10 points will get you a polar fleece jacket, with an embroidered logo from a Heli ski company in Alaska and best of all your name embroidered on the front. So read up on skiing. Get the brain in full gear. Get all your "Summer projects" done since you will be busy in the coming weeks. You will not be able to sleep since few answers will be found on Google. May I suggest you located a great ski tuner, a good observant skier and learn to Increase picture quality on your screen. Enough said! You can form groups if you desire and share jacket. You can share information if you desire. I will try to keep away from making hints as we go along. I also promise not to "comment" of Mikes unique answering technique. Bandit this is your chance to get that jacket now. If you win,,not only will I embroider you name but also "BANDIT" on jacket so all skiers will identify you as you walk in ski chalets all over Europe. All others,,see if you can "keep up" with Bandit! Get ready,,,,,, Enjoy. |
Bandit just posted the world record "switch skiing" speed.
No problem with that for me. No problem with backward skiing in parks. The issue I want to address is doing such "stunts" in open, all public, all level slopes. I have noticed over the past few years that the "moves" practiced in parks is now spilling over the general ski slopes. A greater audience some would say. I have seen great skiers going down backwards on intermediate runs with speed , hit a dip, and then do several rolls with various ski items flying off. Falling is part of skiing and I have no problem with that . What concerns me is when a skier, having his ( yes,, mostly young males) blind spot downhill thus not seen where or who is in his path. Falling is fine. Falling or hitting a person below you is not fine. Saying, "sorry I did not see you" is not a valid excuse. Worst is the person who goes to edge of run, goes up a small rock outcrop or log and then doing a quick turn takes off , does a great 360, etc,,, and lands across ski run. [b]Again great skier. Great move but not in general public runs since chances of a child or fallen skier being at right spot for accident are high. That is the function of the "fun parks". To try all sorts of moves in a controlled setting, with skiers who watch out for such moves. The first safety "item" is the brain and what the skier does with it. Then comes the helmet. By all means do your "tricks", sideways, upside down, backwards, one ski, two skis, no skis, but think of the others please. Just my opinion. |
A Pavel story ( only for adults )
This tale is for adults NOT for the reasonings you think. At the end of this story you will determine why. There was a famous person who few knew was a great skier. One evening after a great great day of skiing she asked all of us, "if you knew it was your last supper, what would you order" ? We all thought about it and I answered, "of course I would have the real Boeuf Strogonoff, with potatoe dumblings à la Kiev and finish it a brulé ". We all gave our favorite meals as last suppers. Of course a discussion followed on what meal was truly the very best "last meal". Then the clincher came from her with this question, "why wait for that last supper,,,,,,,on every ski trip we will have one of those meals on me". So we did. Every year a special meal was prepared and after a great day skiing one person had his/her last supper dream. Those great ski trips now became magic. The famous person,, Nora Ephron. Just died, yet lived as she dined since she had Leukemia for many years yet told no one. She had her last supper and loved it with us. No one knew that this last ski season was her last supper. Why is this story just for adults? Only you know now that you must plan your last supper. Take that ski trip you dreamed of. Savor everyday of that ski trip as if it was your last one! When you have that last supper during the ski trip, raise your wine glass to Nora for making that ski trip possible. She moved you to make that decision. Enjoy her films even more now! Pavel |
Lota,
At ski base in Fernie there is a tribe of skiers form all over the world who chase the powder. All in vans, Vanagons, modified trucks, trailers. Ski gypsies all. If you come early you can get a season rate. Great skiers. Great individuals who share with others. Problem is showers! You can smell a new Zealand skier 10 meters away! Great place. Unique in the skiing world. Go there. |
Ski lift dangers or how to survival ski lifts around the world.

Speaking of "surviving the lift journey" there is another skill you rarely see.
Most skiers are like sheep while waiting in line to get up. They just follow the others. Try this to survive on a chair lift on a long cold windy snow day. Watch where dominate wind is from. If it blows across lift line, make sure you sit downwind on chairlift so that the other skiers are in effect protecting you from wind. Watch how Antarctic Penguins protect each other from -50 winds. They rotated and change position relative to group. You do the same. Let the other 3 skiers get cold wind. You sit behind them. If possible pick a huge man to be beside you and hug him ( if possible). |

felthrope,
Like you my son Sasha uses this "between the legs sitting on poles " technique. I hate it since like you I do not like hard tubular surfaces on my,,,,,,. Worst is he hangs his pack on poles. One day they will,,,,, A father must keep quiet about such things or else son will not ski with him. One great trick I discovered skiing with Sasha is that he has a special self locked metal clamp which he has on his pack. Hangs pack on above horizontal bar as he gets dome drinks or food from pack . That is a smart move. Great for long long chair lift rides where you can take out 4 course meal and drinks. |
