Hey Ross, you have to keep those zippers lubricated! Candle wax does help. My friend Mike from Nova Scotia will love to hear this. In this manner he will use up his stock of candle wax! Speaking of lubricated zippers, one of the very worst things that can happen while you are skiing is to have a zipper "jam" due to material from ski jacket! I check all my new jackets and cut off any material that interferes with zipper! I once froze my neck since zipper stuck just at neck level! Had to take jacket off like a poncho, get pliers and rip inner material off zipper. |
Tomski,
Please forgive my comments about your messages and manner in which they are transmitted! It was a "poor" first impression! All the previous comments are on target in the sense that most skiers should go to ski shop! However I have seen more than enough errors made on binding placement and wrong DIN settings to "trust" shops blindly! My attitude is if you are an adult and know the risks you are taking and still wanted to verify or do work yourself , you should be allowed to do so! It is not complicated! I still did not get the type of binding you have! I need company name and model number! I will send via PM your DIN settings which you should memorize for the rest of youe skiing life. Again please forgive my comments about communication style! It was not intended to be a reflection on your competencies as person or house builder! Respectfully, Pavel |
Hirsty,
One of the things you can do just before skiing season to these lager zippers is to take a bar of soap ,,yes bar of soap such as you find in hotels and rub along open zipper! Great lubricant. Now if you want to get "fancy" get some white lithium grease put one drop on kleenex and rub on open zipper! Lasts about three years! |
Tomski,
Great choice of skis! You will really enjoy them. I need to know what bindings you bought! While you get me name and model, I will give you the Bindings 101 Course. Three forces are needed to adjust on bindings. 1.Release ( or your parachute) This is the DIN level. They are the figures you see in front and rear units. This setting is based on your weight , ability level and boot size ( sole)! A standard chart has been used for all bindings all over the world! 2. Rear pressure setting If you have Atomic NEOX units it is the lower screw at the rear unit! This tension is very important for correct vibration damping and release of units. 3. Front vertical pressure. That is how much pressure you have on plate under sole of ski boot. If you have the NEOX units there is not setting since they adjust automatically! I have to warn you, that you must set units correctly! Your legs depend on it! Based on your syntax and lack of capitals, I suspect you are in the teens" No problem with that, just make sure your parents understand that this is a safety issue! Give me your ability level, weight, and boot sole length and I will tell you what is the recommended setting for you! Please check this setting at least once every month! Hope this helps you! Pavel |
Yes it is the unit.
Mine is more "portable" the size of a cigar box! Very effective and very strange to see large quadracept muscle flexing with no input from me! It really works. Now not sure if all the promises on site you suggested really work! I am at 50 level now and I will stop going any higher! Just too many "stars" during shock! Thanks for info and site! |
Learning a lot about getting body ready for skiing these days.
Also learning the new modern torture techniques used by the "Exequisit Torturers"! There is a gadget on the market perfect for skiers and sadists. It is spin off technology from the company that makes Electric Chairs for the American Justice Agency ! I seemed to have "lost" one of my major muscles during my body tune up! My brain just could not find it! I could not flex it! Try as much as I wanted to all I got was a flaccid muscle! I realize it is taboo among atheltes to talk about "flaccid" muscles ,,,but it does happen! Seems nerve is traumatized! There is a great gadget with two electrodes that sends "major" electric pulses to muscle! It works! A muscle I though I had lost comes alive in seconds and flexes by itself! After 3-4 sessions my brain "re-wired" itself and now I can flex (somewhat)! I researched this use and yes the American Ski team uses this gadget on the first day after surgery! So if you suffer from "flaccid muscles" do not hide your state. Get this gadget, dial to 40 and enjoy the pain! For you sadist skiers the dial goes to 120! Not recommended! PS. Yes it hurts. |
Jan in a previous message mentions the issue of having a "cold zipper" right next to lips!
Know the feeling! I have found a solution since many many ski jackets have this problem! Since I ski in very cold weather with high winds this is what I do! I take a polar fleece scarf which is the same color as the inside of the jacket! I cut the scarf so that I have a 30 cm. long piece! I sew the scarf along the top of the ski jacket collar from 10 cm. left of the zipper! Just 2 cm. from zipper I stop stitch! Thus I have a scarf flap loose for about 20 cm. When I zip up, I place this 20 cm. flap in front of my chin, between zipper and lips! The end goes to my right shoulder inside the jacket collar! It severs two functions; 1. Keeps cold zipper away from tender lips 2. Keeps cold wind (when skiing fast) to enter via collar. You can do this in 15 minutes and it provides a cozy neck Jan! Yes I had to change my "coach" Spyder Jacket ( $700) this way! I also wrote to the Spyder designers and soon you will see changes! |
I did not dare tell you another reason why I had to dye the bags, but we need to laugh once in a while!
I have made several bags, all just pure MUSH and one of my friends came over to see me. Since my mobility is limited ( at the moment) he went to fridge to fix himself a drink! It was a hot day and what does he see! These bags of "ice"! So without my knowledge he takes some "ice" pours in some juice and comes over to talk to me! I wish I had a camera when he took the first sip!!!!!! I think he is still "washing" his mouth! So for security and safety reasons ( I do have small children visiting fridge) I now have those wild colored bags and even a stick with my name on them! My girl, who has a spa just discovered that you can use this formula with small Zipp-lock bags to "prepare" ( not sure what that means) a women's face. She now is getting some small soft bags made in which she inserts the plastic bags ! Imagine she is now selling these small soft bags since the clients love them so much! Next time you have headache,,,try this! Hope this makes some skiers happy! |
