Snow Houses - Mayrhofen

Thanks for your replies. I now can't get the deal I was looking at from Belfast to Mayrhofen  so the next best thing I can find is for Soll. Anyone got any views on this resort?

Cheers

Has anyone had experience of staying in the snow houses in Mayrhofen? I'm looking at a deal at the moment. What's the resort like in general? Week planned for 15 - 22 March. 8)

Hi

I can only speak from my experience in Niederau in Austria but we always have booked a package hol through Inghams inc ski school, ski hire and lift pass. I priced it this year in the resort and Inghams were only a few pounds/euros more expensive, so I think it's worth it so that you don't have the hassle when you arrive or on your first morning before you can ski.

Regarding ski school, we have now been to ski school in classes three times and have booked again for next year. We've learnt a lot from different instructors in what are very good ski school classe. Our friends booked private lessons (they are quite experienced) and I know they found them worthwhile also. :)

Hi ldavies

Christina wasn't too bad but we were in class with her last January when the snow was poor, so I think she was a bit limited in where she could take us and what we could do. We found Hansi worked us really hard this year - we were knackered every night and I'd consider myself of reasonable fitness. :)

Hi ldavies

Yep, we were taught to ski by Phil on our first ski hol in Jan '06. The next year we had Christina Jochum for 5 days and Martin for 1 day and this year we were in Hansi's class.

My other half and I learnt to ski with the 1st Skischule Wildschoenau (the reds) and they are fantastic. We've had lessons with them three years in a row and have booked lessons again when we go next January. So far we've had four different instructors over 3 holidays and they've all been great - we learnt something different from each one. Regarding kids & parents meeting up for lunch - in Niederau all the ski classes seem to stop between 12 - 12.30 so there's a good chance that you'll end up in the same restaurant as your kids (unless you go to Auffach). We don't have kids but any parents we've had in our ski classes have spoken highly of the "reds".

Hubby and I learnt to ski in Niederau in January 2006 - I was 34 and hubby was 37. Oh how we wish we'd gone years ago. The schools we went to didn't do skiing holidays and our parents are definately not the winter holiday types! The other half was never really interested in skiing but I had always wanted to have a go. Two people were talking one day in work about their ski hols I just decided there and then to book a ski hol. It was a case of "Oh well, if we go and don't like it, at least we can say we've tried skiing". Both of us are now totally hooked and have been back to Niederau in 2007 and 2008 but hopefully will get a second holiday in March as well.
