Oldnevada,

May I suggest you first find a nice quiet center like Owl' Head and during week take Lake Chair!

Forget all that; up/down (unweigh), rotate then set edges! Old ski technique.

You have great new equipment so learn to set edges with knees and hips!

Hope this will help you.
Ski Feel

Often new skiers do not know how various ski perform.
They do not know what a slalom ski feels like or how a de-tuned ski feels like.

I have found a great site which can simulate ski performance! It is a ski racing "game" in which you can define the ski performance parameters. I have been trying one race course with changing ski performance characteristics. Then it it me! You can feel when this ski skidds or goes sideways because I had placed ski performance on speed only.
When I re-defined ski parameters with more carving,,,I really felt ski cut into the hill.

I suggest you all try this site/game. It is free and like airplane pilots who use "simulators" to learn how to fly specific planes, you can learn this ski "feel".
The site ishttp://skichallenge.orf.at/sc08/.
Just Google: orf-ski challenge 2008

I did not register myself on net. I just used "practice" option.

Have fun!

hopscotch,

So happy for you.
Now for some great news ! You will discover something very interesting "feelings" as you ski with these heels!

I often speak of "ski feel" or listening to feet, because that is the one factor which all expert skiers master. They cab discern the type of snow under the ski base,,by the "feel" of the snow!

These gel heels allow you to "move about" as you flex forward and back! Focus on this feeling as you ski! You will train your brain to "pick up" these sensory cues!
Soon you will be dancing on the slopes a "quick step", light as a feather! Just kept this a secret between us! Ups......
Compression Clothing

Willow,

So many good questions,, so little time.

Let us take each question you posed.

I have skied with a "new" compression tights for the past two years. First impression. Strange feeling! I love to feel free, loose,,,these made me feel as if I was back windsurfing with my wet suit.

No they will not eliminate muscle burn. That is the result of build up of lactic acid in muscle fiber. All that will reduce this is conditioning! Sorry no shortcuts or freebies!

They will not also reduce muscle injury. All marketing dreams. Yes it is hype.

This said I must confess that after the initial, "too tight feeling" I did get an impression that the pants helped me. Let me explain. I wear an orthodic ski racing brace. I always have problems with "rubbing" on thight. With these pants no problem.
I discovered another plus.In Spring skiing when it is gloriously hot and you want to strip to minimum, these a great. Typically if you are young, inexperienced and have great body, you want to shed the camouflage and get shorts and T-shirt on. Very soon you learn that snow is like 80 grit sndpaper. You will remember your first fall all your life.
These pants are the solution. My had a weave which did not look like underwear, so I wore them on a very hot Spring day. Freedom at last.No snow burn!

One major problem! Well it all depends on your attitude about your body and where you ski! While I was "testing" these pants, I was in a "conservative,,family oriented ski resort" Women skier tended to stare! (and they say THEY do not want to be seen as "sex" objects). This comment from a women who was riding up with me says it all. She said, with a little tone of reproach to me, "you must be a homosexual or a great skier to where THOSE pants" I replied, " or perhaps both"! My wife, who was beside my on the lift, started to gag!
Let us just say,,,I would not wear these in the ski bar at the chalet.
Solution! I have a great pair of hawaine shorts that I put over the pants. They still peek!!!!!
Where do i start?

Epic.
Thanks for that suggestion. Excellent one.
As long as that top strap is inside the boot sheel. That is the secret!

Hopscotch,
The heel lifting issue will not be solved by tightening more the buckles,,,all it will do is cut blood circulation to foot!.What Trencher so well pointed out with his "ramp" comment is your solution.
As Trencher pointed out, many boot companies realize that this "heel lifting" problem can be solved by having an adjustment screw on the lower heel section of boot shell. In essence this screw goes into the boot shell and is connected to a wedge like "ramp" ( just under your heel area) As you turn this screw,,,the ramp is raised,,thus raising the heel platform against your heel. Voila no more space or mouvement!

See if you boots have this screw! You can not miss it since it is right on the boot sole in heel area!

If you do not have this screw,,no problem. You can buy a Dr. Scholl heel lifters. There are several models and cost is very low! I like the gel ones! Start with thinest ones.Take out your boot liner foot plate ( that flat piece at bottom of boot liner) With duct tape ,,,tape under this plate the heel "lifter". Place all back and go skiing! If you still have some play, get a thicker pad! repeat until you are satisfied!
Once you are satisfied,,,,boot heaven will come!

Of course some ski stores have heel inserts which does the same function! It is your call!

Hope this helps you!

Hopscotch, in my book it is never comfort OR performance! It should first be above all comfort,,,then performance!
he heel pad will actually place you in a more "attacking" ,more forward posture for better skiing. You will gain both in comfort and performance!

May I suggest,,,,in next season that you get custom orthotics! There are many many hypped products in skiing,,but custom orthodics is not one of them. You will emediately see a difference. All serious skiers get custom orthodics, They will last you a lifetime. My superfeet units are 20 years old and still going strong! In my area there are new orthodics that you can place in your microwave oven for 5 minutes and then insert in ski boots! They are $45 US!
Help

Love to help you, but you must be more specific!

Is it trouble getting into boots?

Getting into front of boots is easy.
Just put boots down on floor. Walk to front of boots. Voila you are in front of your boots. Correct manners is to say, "hello boots"

Now the cranking problem is a perplex one.Do you have the model 45H6t crank? If so you must do a counter-body rotaion.

If you have the model 45H6H model crank,,,,then it is another story. This model is smooth if you know how to set an edge!

Seriously, Blazeskibunny, You want correct ski advice. Take the time to formulate your question clearly!

Lots of help coming.
Where do i start?

Welcome to this wonderful sport.
I must warn you, it is addictive.

Above all just enjoy yourself and forget about looking "silly". We all did, thus other skiers will respect your first "steps".

Think this way....it will always get better!

Now for practical points.

1. By all means get lessons right away.
2. Learn just to walk about those silly boards.
3. Try NOT to look at them. They get very shy when you do and thus do silly things.
4.Do not go up with friends for at least a day. You will be too self-conscious and they will want to go too fast!
5. Learn to fall correctly

Have lots of fun,,since you will remember your first day on skis for the rest of your life.
