Now Ian really!

You know perfectly well I'm tea-total. All I had to drink for my lunch was de-caffeinated tea (I bring the tea-bags with me - haven't seen any in Courchevel yet).

Ally: have you seen that de-caffeinated, alcohol-free Jagertee ? No, me neither.

A nice snort of Cognac on the chair lift will improve your skiing Ally

The answer is clear!

As often as possible!

I do mine everyday,,since I ski everyday!

Why?

It protects the ski bases
It makes my skiing so much better
I love to let skis do all the work.
I am old!

My Norwegian friend told me to wax my board as soon as I was back home and to leave the wax on until I needed it again. He also said I should wax every day to get the best out of the board, but that's never going to happen whilst on holiday. So once home I waxed my board ,but then 5 months later he sent me a swix waxing iron and a few brushes for my birthday so I had to try my new present and do it again 8) woohoo any excuse to pull it out the cupboard and play with it is ok by me .

Does anyone else leave the wax on whilst not being used?

A lot of people will leave a thick layer of storage wax on their skis/ boards between seasons. I'm not sure that this makes any difference. P-tex is inert, It doesn't oxidize or change when exposed to air, or most other common substances. Wax away though, as often as you feel the urge between trips. Frequent waxing will load more wax into the base (along with the brushing), like hot boxing does.
because I'm so inclined .....

A nice protective covering of wax over the base and edges will protect the base and also help stop your edges oxidising.

Interesting point about waxing and "holidays" !

Yes I know 99% of skiers think that when on holidays,,it is impossible to self wax and ridiculous to pay those resort waxing fees!

But there is a possible solution!

I once skied for two weeks in a very "chi-chi" hotel and on first day asked for the tuning room! This hotel was proud to host "great skiers", expert skiers !

Silence followed my request. The desk clerk, spoke to the assistant manager,,,who in turn spoke to the manager.
In seconds I got the special key! To the work bench room of the hotel mechanic ! Best stainless steel bench I ever used!
Coffee was served in this work area for me every morning and on third day I was teaching a hotel staff member how to wax skis to future guests!

Just ask !

Now when I plan a ski holiday for 30+ skiers I always request a ski tuning room ! Amazing how one is always found!

If more skiers asked,,,,,,

Hope this helps you wax your skis every day!

As far as waxing for storage,,,it is not for the base that you do this. It is to protect steel edges from rusting. I now refuse to accept any skis that come in October for a "hand tune" if they have rust on edges!

Also,,in ski tuning,,"less is best " ! Persons who think that laying thick wax is better are wrong! The trick is to pre-heat base,,then allow wax to PENETRATE into the base ! You can tell when a ski base has not been done for some time when you apply first coat on ski base! It soaks INTO the base "as if base is a sponge" !

Yes do wax every day !
