Dave Mac,
My daughter has very expensive tastes, and she would like to ski St Anton one ski holiday. Does it have any cheap self-catering accommodation?
Thanks,
Ally

Sorry, Ally, cannot help. Although in Niederau I do normally take an apartment, elsewhere, it tends to be b&b, or an hotel. In this case we stayed b&b in an hotel, and ate out. I prefer to eat out, usually where locals go, if possible. I avoid chalets.
The Nasserein end of St A tends to be lower cost.

You're right, you did say MOST of the time. I am not "going anywhere" with this at all Dave. I just thought it odd how you said light was flat and viz was poor, and then posted pictures of lovely sunny days and blue skies, and showed a particular picture of an offpiste run in the blazing sun and said something about it being bad light. Please don't try to read between the lines Dave, I was interested to see what you made of St Anton, that was all, and I was just confused seeing your pictures and comments seemingly conflicting.Dave Mac wrote:Tony_H wrote:
So how come it was always flat light then, according to your post?
My post reads: "St Anton. On most days, the light was flat, and the viz was poor."
I'm not sure where you are going with this Tony. We had a great time in the Arlberg. I am not making a judgement of St Anton because of flat light, that is part of skiing.
I wrote how things were, and of some of the interesting things we found.
To use your own words, or words which you approved of: "Any skiing is good skiing" My version would be "All skiing is good skiing"
Well, assuming I,m not falling at the time! - )

Thanks Dave Mac,
I did have a look on a website, but it reverted to German when it came to looking for accommodation, and I don't know any German at all
Maybe someone else knows :P
We like self-catering much more than chalets or hotels, but it seems to be a lot harder to find self-catering in Austria than in France, where we have been for the last few years.

For self catering, the first call should be the Tourist office. They speak English, and normally their brochure and web info is in English.
When my ski buddy and I were granted passouts for a half season some nine years ago, we did a vitual door to door enquiry, until we found exactly the right place. Now, we don't tell anyone the name of it, in case it becomes too popular!
We are no longer allowed half seasons, but we do manage 3 to 4 weeks a year.
