I don't fancy being on drag lifts for a week.

In Niederau itself there are 8 drag lifts, 1 gondola and 1 chair.

enjoy your trip, more than a little bit jealous!! 10 weeks till Mayrhofen for me but plenty of the white stuff in Scotland to keep me amused until then!!

Being "tracked out" is not likely to be a problem. The off-piste snowpack, across much of The Alps, is poorly consolidated and - in places - extremely dangerous at present.

As Ise's earlier post indicated, the Avalanche Risk is now 4/5 for parts of the French Alps - Austria has had similar temperature swings and snow patterns over the past two weeks.

Stay safe in ADH mate. Seriously.

Cheers Dave. The off piste was epic in ADH. My Neos performed superbly, a great purchase. Avvy risk down to 2/3 whilst there, despite a massive dump midweek. Skied reasonable amounts off piste but mainly between runs and off the back of Pic Blanc near La Sarenne.
Some good reds and blacks left unpisted so as good as off piste anyway..

Be safe people.

Caron, thank you. It was a great day. Having met a lovely lady in the Bichlwirt last night, I skiied with her, and two instructors for most of today, she was both fast and stylish, and we had a real fun day, doing non-stop 4 minute runs. Unfortunately, at the 4.00 pm end, we met a bunch of friends and locals in Rudi's, (Jochalm), and a schapps session happened, cut short by a phone call from a mate who wanted to meet up in the Bichl.

We all skiied down, in the best of order, and a serious Bichlwirt drinking session ensued. Nobody was in the Bichl, so I served everyone, kept a note of the drinks, and collected the cash. My ski buddy Mel, arrived at 7.00pm to gather everyone up for a meal, had to do a quick ski-boots removal/shower/smart Dave Mac black shirt. Caught up with the group, trying to look sober....in control.

After dinner, attended by Herbert, we repaired to the Bichlwirt, and had just arranged to meet up in the Irish bar in the village, when a bunch of Irish nurses arrived, and of course it would have been impolite to move on, especially since one of them was a J2skier. Herbert arrived and gave a great harp performance of Tirol music.

It was dumping snow all day, there was loads of off piste. How much better does a birthday get?
