My 16 year old is a very good skier, and she wanted to have a go at snowboarding.
So, I paid for her to have a snowboarding lesson at Chillfactore in Manchester in June. She found she was totally rubbish at it, and it was really frustrating for her to go back to a beginners' lesson, and she's now quite happy to go back to advanced ski-ing lessons!
She couldn't believe ski-ing could have been so hard when she started. She was only 9 at the time, and she can't really remember now. But I do. She did find it very hard, and it was a job to persuade her to continue.
I do understand what you mean. I am really relieved that my daughter has decided to stick with ski-ing, so that we can still ski together. I know good snowboarders can have fun with skiers, but they seem to go down the slopes in a totally different way, and I'd really miss our little chats.

I guess Sellfeld is a good ski resort suited for beginners. Nice terrain and perfect snow condition. And as for the skiing vs snowboarding, I prefer skiing. It is indeed fun and helps you improve your flexibility, balance and concentration.

There is less to carry.
You can walk around in the boots.

Pablo, I agree. However you look much cooler strolling through the village clutching your snowboard :)

Back in the day, when I first hit the slopes there was only a couple of boarders out there. (I took up boarding first and found that it was only towards the end of the week that I came to grips with it)
Boarding for the most part you are more concerned with keeping up right. Skiing you are more concerned about your position, turning and stability.
The trouble with boarding is that you need a lot more space around you and you are more likely to get up other peoples ways. Plus when it comes to ski lifts if you not prepared you will be expecting your fair share of tousles and falls when on the board.

I'd have to admit Pablo, a TRUCKLOAD less to carry. But i personally think that skiing is a lot more fun and a bit less painfull.
