I'm quite tempted to head up for a day or two over the Xmas holidays if the snow is good.
Any advice on where would be best to head for in terms of the skiing? I have friends in Glasgow and Aberdeen where I could stop.

I'm thinking about heading up there tomorrow from Motherwell all pending a last minute weather check on the snow up there

Thanks

Snow today was absolutely quality. Untracked boot deep powder all day long (genuine powder too), I'd have to guess at the temperature somewhere between -5 and -10. Was -10 when driving back through GLencoe.

No problems with the roads at all, the road up has snow on it but in good condition.

If it doesn't warm up I would Nevis is a good shout, cover at the top is extensive (read: no rocks), and most of the way down the Goose tbar, skiable back to the day lodge.

Nevis is probably closest for you no matter what way you go, took me 2 and a half hours on the way up (loads of traffic and being careful) and an hour 45 on the way home.

Sounds like a good day, Pabs.

I had all the gear ready to load yeaterday, but did a check on the road conditions and snow report to Cairngorm. I calculated that a 2.5 hour normal journey time would extend out to nealy 4 hours, each way, so decided against. Many of the bad roads were close to us.

However, Glenshee is about to open. Six of us are staying in Braemar for the week up to Hogmanay, and Glenshee is close. So we have a plan!

Will have to take turns in being on guide dog duty, but that's all do-able.

Good plan Mr. Mac!

People are probably wondering how it was cost wise:

Petrol (half a tank) = £25
Pass = £19 (student, day pass was £25 for an adult)
Lunch = £10 (macaroni cheese + chips, Dr. Pepper/Water + cake)

That's about it! Photos in time...

Pablo,
It sounds like you had a great time, and I'm glad to hear you were being careful driving up there. The minor roads around here were really terrible with ice, and we didn't even have any snow!

I'm looking forward to the pictures :D

Nevis:

and

Glenshee:

Both look absolutely fantastic. Pending further reports I might try out Glenshee sometime this week, don't know if I could pass up another day at Nevis :D

Oh aye, Glencoe is opening on the 28th (earliest since 1996) so will try and get up there for opening day :)

Pabs and anyone else who is interested, I am thinking of heading to Oban for New Year to see the folks if the snow is still good. Glencoe would be a good shout for a day or two on the white stuff. Possibly the 2nd and 3rd???

Here we go, cheap as chips....

I might still be recovering through in Edinburgh but never say never! You are better off looking at Kingshouse hotel if you can, across the road from Glencoe whereas Crianlarach is a good half hour out!
