Welcome to J2ski :D Suggest you make enquiries urgently as Grenoble was one of the airports which had signs up saying boots were banned in hand luggage.

Just got back from the shed Grenoble and boots and helmets are not allowed as hand luggage on your journey home. They kept putting tannoy messages out about it.
What are they like there about ski bags - anyone weighing them or asking you to open them?

Psht no question, pack them with your suitcase. It's nuts to back them in a bag. I do agree with someone outright stealing them. Take it from someone whose traveled internationally with their ski stuff and have had their stuff trashed. I had a BRAND NEW 110$ ski bag that was destroyed by the lousy clueless and useless TSA. Stay smart and pack them. Besides they work WONDERS for packing bottles of schnaps and wine in.

Don't even get me started on overweight luggage , A lot my hard earned Euros have gone into the pockets of....well whom ever they go to. So what if I was trying to pack 16 bottles into my sack :p

Happy travels
Uh oh, I think I broke'd the lift

Im amazed that they allow boots as cabin bags, but if you can get away with it then fine. I personally would not want the hassle at the start of my holiday if they say no or have changed the rules. Your boots are that important, if they are damaged or lost then that could well ruin your holiday. It is not worth the risk, put them in a good quality hard suitcase and do not exceed the weight limit set by the airline on the website.

Blimey, I always use a boot bag, had the boot bag some 13 years, no damage to boot bag still in perfect working
order it was a freebee when I brought a pair of boots, the only issue I would have with the boot bag is it has Livigno sport printed all over it. So my point is how many people out there have actually had their ski gear damaged or lost in transit ?. :)

Here's one. OH had a pair of skis written off by baggage handling at Gatwick. Some bright spark must have driven a baggage handling vehicle over the tips. The tyre tracks on the bag should have given us a clue really, but hey, everyone is in a hurry to get home having waited 1 hour or more for the skis to come down the carousel causing chaos.

Air Canada lost 2 pairs of my skis and a pair of boots last season. Technically not lost I guess, they knew they had left them in Toronto. The problem was I was a couple thousand miles away in Calgary.

The only time I have ever used a boot bag I checked it in and the airline lost it. It was on a Varig flight to Rio. The lost luggage staff struggled with the concept of what ski boots were!
