Trust me, i have your best interests at heart.

Anyway, i did step two of my running app today, you do three days a week that suits my working pattern.
I have to say that today was so much easier than Monday which is strange because i wouldn't have thought that it would have made that much difference.

If its your waistline your worried about, Snapzzz, you need to change your lifestyle. Simple as that.

That is exactly what i am trying to do!
I don't eat crisps very often and i cannot remember the last time i bought a bar of choc. I rarely drink coke and the likes either, i just think that it is lack of exercise that is killing me.

I work late (8-7) three days a week which means i tend to just have an hour on the sofa after dinner before bed. On my days off i have been lounging about as my working week zaps me so i never get any real exercise.
My weight has been pretty constant at around 13 to 13.5st for the last four years but I'm feel like i am carrying just a few too many pounds as my clothes feel a little tight.
I am thinking that if i get out a little more and work out every now and then i can keep my diet pretty much the same.

thoughts?

I have sympathy with your situation, Snapzzz. It is easy to slide some beef on when working long hours, and it is NOT easy to work up enthusiasm for exercise.

I ran from the age of 12, simply because I loved running, particularly on the hills. After 40 years, heel and knee probs kicked serious running.

I have skied for 45 years because it is the best sport/lifestyle I have ever experienced.

In between, I played squash, and now tennis, mainly because it is competitive, the exercise is a bonus.

I have tried gym membership, but it is not for me, there is no buzz like running or skiing.

I do think it is important to keep some kind of cardio-vascular exercise going, My steady pulse rate is still 60bpm, although, in my twenties, I got it down to 52.

Holidays are a good opportunity for getting a good week or twos exercise. If in the mountains, a days leisurely walk, or bike ride; if by the sea two or three hours daily swimming is really great. Lying on a beach is a bit of a waste of time.

Back to Snapzzz~ I guess if you can aim to get enjoyment out of the exercise, weight loss becomes a secondary benefit. You are only young once! But you can stay young all your life!

I am trying a low carb diet ..it may not suit your life style but its working for me

a large breakfast (eggs chicken steaks tomatoes and mushrooms with fresh fruit and fat free yoghurt washed down with hot water with lemon)
a lightish lunch ( salad or veg curry with no rice or naan followed again with fresh fruit)
and for an evening repast clear soup with noodles and again fresh fruit ,,,of course drinking copious amounts of water

might not suit you and its getting boring for me but I have lost 20lb so far (6 weeks) and I work out 6 days a week ( I did this before I started the diet so nothing to do with exercise)

I've learned from experience that the best way to get fit for skiing is to ski, but I understand that it's not an option for many people who ski on their holidays. After my first weekend typically I can barely walk the following Monday, but by Christmas I am back on skiing form. Also as the season moves into the second month with more terrain and respective technique to ski it, more muscle groups activate so there are still occasional aches here and there but they also disappear after couple weekends. Last summer was the first time ever that I started some regular and fairly intensive physical activity (although I go to the swimming pool for an hour on my lunch breaks pretty much every day unless too busy I don't consider it intensive) with the purpose of being fully fit for beginning of December. I hiked up and down Saleve every week, biked about 10 km daily and even went around the Lake on a bike, and also played tennis regularly. On top of it in 6 years of having an office on the 6th floor I haven't used the lift once and leaving in Geneva I mostly walk unless I have to go quite far (over 30 min), the bus is there and I am running late or it rains heavily. AND after my first skiing weekend I didn't notice any difference. If anything I was actually aching more:) For this summer I initially planned to do a bit of mountaineering but with two business trips to Asia, one wedding in Spain and one in the States to go to, my summer unfolds differently now, but based on my past year experience I am very relaxed about it.
All I need is a good snow season and ski fitness will come.
