Shows how much I know, I thought it was ancient and modern
It's actually a combination of all four:
Ancient and Modern reflects the pattern through history, and Hunting and Dress reflects day(practical) and night(formal) or some such. So you can have a Modern Hunting for example, which mine is.
After the 45 rebellion, kilt wearing was banned, although, in reality, it was plaids that were worn, and then, only in the Highlands.
It was Charles I that was the cause of the Jacobite uprising, but he ermm, later lost his head! 171 years after Charles was in Scotland, George IV came to Edinburgh, (in 1822), and wore the kilt. Thereafter, it was de riguer to wear the kilt.
Anyway, Hunting green doesn't show the beer spills like the Dress red!
