It's actually a combination of all four:

Ancient and Modern reflects the pattern through history, and Hunting and Dress reflects day(practical) and night(formal) or some such. So you can have a Modern Hunting for example, which mine is.

The flag is normally attached to by a length of rope which is attached to a pully which you pull and the flag rises :wink:
