Ally, my closest pal, Pete, who died 30 years ago, we were at school together. Then we were fell walkers, jointly ran a scout group, shared girlfriends, and ....., we started Trans Pennine Ski Club. We started trips from Manchester, at £7 per weekend, half board! We must have introduced thousands of people to skiing. The trips rapidly gained momentum, until there were two coaches a week to Cairngorm.
Dave Mac,
I'm sorry your friend died -he must have been pretty young at the time .
£7 per weekend for your ski trips sounds unbelievably cheap now, but I suppose it's down to inflation.
I had a look at the prices for a weekend ski-ing with 'Ski Norwest' and it's about £170 including ski hire, accommodation and lift passes, with £40 extra for coach travel from Northern England. And 6 nights (5 days ski-ing) with them in Jan ski-ing in the Cairngorms costs from £350 to £550 depending on which hotel you stay in, plus the £40 for the coach travel, which includes accommodation, ski hire, and lessons.
Pablo,
You are very lucky to live so close to the ski slopes. I have to travel about 50 miles just to get to the nearest dry slope!
Ian,
It wasn't wibble - I was just trying to do Pablo a favour and keep the Scotland thread going :D

Pouring with rain then snow then rain here just now.
Glenshee was looking good this morning:

Also looks like Glencoe is picking up a load of snow:

Note: this is in the bottom of the Glen, about 400m before the start of the skiable area (there are runs back down to the base but they aren't skiable unless there is a load of snow). The bottom of the plateau is the hut in this picture: http://www.winterhighland.info/pix/displayimage.php?photo_id=9381 (not mine) and you can see the valley floor in the background with less snow coverage.
