And I wouldn't say scary........

Exactly, PB. Just remember that IrishJay is new to the forum, though. While Admin does a great job with his snips, there has, in years past, been a fair amount of vitriol.

None of this bothers those that truly love and enjoy skiing. I have been fortunate to have skied with dozens J2skiers, and for the most part, they have been memorable and friendly experiences, often with repeat meet ups.

Take in three weeks time, for instance.....

Oh, and this season is 45 years since I had my first season in Niederau. Been back most years, and only lost a few days to lack of snow. On those occasions, the lift queues in any high resort resembled the seating plan at the Albert Hall at the last night of the Proms.

Some valleys are just really good at collecting and holding the snow. Height is only one factor, but there are many other geological and geographic factors. Admin pointed one out to me in Niederau, that had escaped me before. Never too young to learn.....

True enough, Dave, re geology and geography. Ive witnessed that in plenty of places, you need to know where to go to find the best snow in an area, it comes with experience. You can be at 2500m in some resorts with melting snow and rocks poking through whilst down below 1000m in other places the snow is squeaking away.

And the common denominator that keeps us all on here is the love for the skiing itself. Its as simple as that.

We went to Niederau for the first time at the beginning of January, I hadn't skied since I was at university (but skied a lot as a teenager) and my husband and children had never skied. We loved it, the ski school was brilliant, I too had Hansi and he was brilliant, the children had brilliant instruction and were flying at the end of their week. Carolyn was fantastic with my husband, in fact he was so enthused that I managed to get him back 3 weeks later without the children!

Yes, it is small and quiet and the skiing is limited but the ski school is great and Auffach and Alpbach offer alternatives. We are looking forward to returning next year with the children.

I'm going to Niederau in March and wondered if it is possible to link it Auffach off piste from piste 15. Looking forward to going, just got back from St. Anton and I realise this place won't be the same but nowhere is. I want to make the most of the place and it is half the price of St. Anton :-)!

I had never even heard of Niederau until I came on here some while ago.
One day I will ski there :)
If I get to taking youngies again (which is so much fun) I would really consider the place.
Don't think I would book Niederau for my one and only in a season - but I can see myself turning up for a few days or going if I have the right sort of people with me.
There must be something great about the place!

I have been searching recently for cheap ski deals, and all that came up affordable was Niederau!!!!
There must be a reason why its always top of the list for cheapest bargain holidays.
