Ouch, hope all is well Mrs TH and the toe isn't giving too much pain. I have a similar issue as Mrs P is unable to ski until Feb and she said lets go anyway at Christmas, I ski and Mrs P reads a book but as you say in her heart of hearts she is really saying that for my benefit.
Whatever you guys do will be the right decision.
Get well soon Mrs TH.

Pah! Ski fit.....
I've been trying to get 'ski fit' for years and never really got there. Fit or not you can still have a ball and ski till you drop.
As for the pain, a few sherbets at lunch time will sort that along with a handful of Nurofen.
Go and have fun.

Tony, Dec 23 2012, I broke Tib & Fib boarding, and had planned to travel to Mauritius some 3 weeks later in Jan 2013. Consultant at Hospital in UK said there was no way he would give me a fit to fly certificate, despite the obvious fact that I'd flown back to UK from Austria. I informed Travel insurance Co and also went and saw my GP. I had to pay an extra premium for Mauritius flights, £12:00 if I recall correctly. I visited GP who checked all my notes, X-rays, etc and then wrote me a letter saying I could fly, and the main risk was DVT which we had discussed, and I went and bought very fetching DVT stockings for flights. (GP Letter cost me £25:00). I also went and bought one of those waterproof rubber cast boots, and managed to self physio by spending time walking in the swimming pool every day, worked wonders. I would suggest you check the small print under medical paragraph of Airlines rules. Given that your OH big toe should be well on way to recovery after 10 weeks, I wouldn't think insurance would stop you flying. As for you're OH actually skiing, I guess that's a bit of suck it and see, pain relief gel can be a godsend, and lasts for a few hours. Have you considered a visit to your nearest ski slope to gauge how if goes? Adrenaline while skiing can also help by focussing the mind on something other than pain. Anyway, really hope that you both manage to travel and enjoy the mountains, and hope OH big toe recovers fully.
A day without Ski's on is a day wasted.

Check your insurance and then go for it! 10 weeks should be ok albeit a little painful. Plenty of pain relief and some of the good old falling down water should do the trick. Have fun

Just to add best wishes for Mrs H's recovery.
I guess there is no right answer, for some of us just being in the mountains and not skiing would be second best but still great, for others, it means nothing unless you are sliding down the mountain on a couple of boards.
I can imagine the hardest part with a foot injury might be getting ski boots on and off unless you have some rear-entry boots.

I got knocked off my bike yesterday by an idiot who suddenly decided to turn left into a carpark without indicating and landed very heavily on my chest:evil:.
The ridiculous thing was one of my first thoughts was "this could ruin my ski trip in January" Just goes to show how obsessed we are
Thankfully, a trip to the ER confirmed that nothing was broken and no sign of any other significant problems. So apart from rather painful internal bruising, I should be fine after a few days .
Anyway, hope Mrs H is recovering well and that you will be able to travel Tony.
Best wishes for the Christmas season.

Thanks everyone for their good wishes and comments. As far as insurance goes, Mrs H would be covered in full should she not be fit to travel, that was always the case and never in question. Ally I appreciate your insurance comments, but its really not relevant as Mrs H will get her money back if the hospital sign her off again.
The big question is should I still go if she doesnt? We have had discussions on this and she tells me I should 100% go, after all theres little else I could do by not going, apart from taking more income in from my business.
So Monday 23rd is D Day at the fracture clinic. If they say NO she cant go, we cancel her holiday - I think shes resigned to this, and ready should it happen, although shes not the sit down and rest type so another month or so will drive her insane!
Should they say its healed, then we've got 2.5 weeks to get her ski fit and through the pain barrier so she can enjoy her usual fast paced ski week without having to bail out or cut days short.
Fingers crossed.....
