Even here in the U.K. we can have enormous weather variations. In the past we have been sitting here in the house during the summer whilst it's tipping it down rain outside, and the combine driver is waiting for us a couple of miles down the road in glorious sunshine ready to start work and wondering what's happened to us. And likewise with the snow and frost. There was an enormous increase in the depth of snow we had, just climbing a couple of hundred feet going a mile or so up our road.

Personally, I feel totally jealous of Bandit. She's obviously picked the right place to be at the moment

It's not entirely clear what your point is but just so as you know; we don't tolerate personal attacks in the forum.

Bandit has posted pictures of snow and skiing taking place in the past few days - hardly exaggerating is it? If you read, for example, snowcrazy's recent reports you'll see that there is still skiing available if you pick the right spot and are prepared to travel. Yes, Spring's come early - after a relatively dry winter - and conditions at low and mid altitude are largely pants; but in a few places they're not.

dan_ski wrote:Shame on you...especially when you're taking water from already depleted rivers in Valais in one of the worst drought years in 20 years to put it on the pistes so you can stay open when the conditions would have called for the season to finish a month ago at least.

I'm no expert but the snow in bandit's pictures looks like it might have fallen out of the sky...

Here is a view of todays skiing in Grimentz. This piste runs down to mid station. As you will see, there are no snow cannons, fixed or otherwise. There were lots of people having fun on skis and boards today. It's a good job they can make up their own minds about conditions. Our lift company have closed the run to the village, though folks are still skiing down, mostly families I saw today.

What I want to know, Bandit, is why the Buvette has snow cannons aimed at it's terrace? And why is the snow cannon coverage so extensive, that it manages to cover the whole mountain? I think we should be told, people need to know.
After all, they could be taking advantage of dan-ski's advice. 8)

I think it's really cool to have snow cannons for the off piste bits 8)

The local church is very popular and well subscribed :D

Well, boarders must appreciate the cannons in the village church, they can do their stuff on the rails. I've always thought there are too many cannons in the Bishopric anyway.

My point regarding Bandit's posts is that she has taken advantage of my post to do some free advertising of Grimentz. My post about the lack of snow and honest advice to skiers was to avoid people travelling from the UK and afar to come skiing in Switzerland when it is clearly summer and the little snow that was received over this winter has all but long gone in almost every resort.

Sure, you can still drive a couple of hundred kilometers to try and find some open pistes with decent conditions, but is that what the average tourist paying hard earned money to come to CH is going to want to do?

Is this website a corporate springboard for ski resorts or is it an honest and open forum for friendly advice and tips from skiers to skiers?

Bandit, please don't use my thread for any more shameless advertising of Grimentz.

Your 1st post on this forum was all about pimping some webcams. OTOH, I've been a member here for years and regularly post photos of the actual conditions in the resort where I spend rather a lot of time both winter and summer.

There were skiers here from other resorts yesterday. A Sit Ski club were over from Villars and there was also a blind skiers club, who are regulars. I saw one of the blind skiers wearing a cat suit and slalom faceguard. So you think she should give up on her races because there is no snow on her doorstep?

Yesterday I also posted a photo of GM over in Chamonix. Was that some more shameless advertising, or a photo of the current conditions?

You started a thread which I considered needed a counter view. This is a forum which is on public view. Do you think when you post here that no-one should say otherwise. I don't need to shamelessly advertise Grimentz, I'm not in business.
