Evening all,
Looking at getting a last minute deal with 2 mates, and as we have never snowboarded outside Europe thought we may visit the USA or Canada!
Anyway, found an awesome deal staying in Banff, and was wondering what the prices are like? We are all 23, and not expecting fine dining - cheap and cheerful is the key (I see they have McDonalds and Subway - though these will be avoided if possible  ). What sort of price can you get a burger / steak / pizza for? What sort of prices are drinks, and are there clubs in resort? I expect we will one or two all-nighters if the facilities are available...
Also, is it possible to do day trips into Calgary? Easily available buses or trains that start early, finish late?
Anyway, any experience / advice would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Chris

Chris,
First off, good choice. Check out some photos of Lake Louise a couple weeks ago here.
Where in Banff are you thinking about staying? The lift pass is the major killer expense - check it out on the skibig3 website. If you can get over that it is fairly cheap (despite the horrid exchange rate). You can get a steak for 10 bucks if you know where to look (Tommy's Neighbourhood Pub) and a beer should set you back 5. Pitchers are available. 2 clubs to pick from in Banff are Auroras and the Hoodoo Lounge. I'm not sure if Mels still does dollar 75 highballs... maybe.
You could get the Greyhound but it would probably knock out a day of skiing - unless you really wanted to go in to Calgary for something specific I wouldn't bother.

Thanks Pablo.
Have checked out lift passes and gear hire for the other 2 - a little ouch compared to the EU, but can't be helped. We are looking at £299 for flights, transfers and accommodation, 3* allocated on arrival. Not ideal not knowing where we will be, but a low price makes up for it I think! Once hire and passes are added on we were hoping low living costs would make it about the same price as a EU week away.
$15 (£10ish?) for a steak and beer - I think we can live with that! Last year in VT we were paying 7euros a pint! Couple of guys at work who ski in the states / Canada say it is cheap, but they haven't been for 2 or 3 years, and tend to do the 5* inclusive type deals anyway.
Calgary - no reason, just be cool to see it if we can. My friend loves ice hockey and it would be cool to see a real game in a proper stadium if possible :)
Checking out your photos - skiing above the clouds looks immense! Real lifetime memory I think :)

Check out Ultimate Ski and Ride for hire (you get 10% off in the discount book you can pick up in Banff).
Food is very reasonable and they have everything from McDonalds to fine dining. Check out my recommendations in the thread with the photos.
You can't really end up in a terrible place in Banff if that makes you feel any better! The exchange rate a few years ago was 2.4 to the £ now it is only 1.6. You can do an evening trip that Discover Banff Tours run but the Flames are absolutely gash just now and I wouldn't waste my time.

Went to Banff last year for two weeks, spent a lot of time at lake louise. mainly due to the seemingly never ending runs.
We went to Calgary to watch a Flames game, easily the highlight of our trip (other than powder day at kicking horse).
We booked a trip and the coach picked us up from our hotel, make sure you do it with Larry!! He is quality and we took some beers for the trip which he turned a blind eye to. Sat in the gods but still got a decnet view and watching the teams warm up at rink side was awesome.
Do It, i wish i could!!!
