Hi

I'm lucky enough to work somewhere with a gym and personal trainer on site. I do Body Pump (an hour of weights) and spinning each week. Are there any specific exercises that will help my skiing?

I did a lot of squats whilst holding 8kg weights today, hopefully it will help!

Any Dynamic exercises involving balance.
Try half squats on balance cushions, or single leg squats.Use a mirror to check posture.
Core exercises, including Plank
Swiss Ball for balance and Hamstrings
TRX for lower body
Bulgarian Split Squats to build endurance

If you have a power plate try squatting on that as it causes your muscles to relax and contract rapidly which is a simulation of skiing over bumpy terrain.

As Bandit said anything that involves balance whilst employing a form of resistance will help.

I've been doing 10 mins on bike, 15 mins on cross trainer, loose weights for upper body and arm strength, TRX for upper body and back, some fixed weights for abs and pecs, just increased to 60 squats with 15kg powerbag, fast walk for 10mins, and then swim 500m.
3-4 times a week.
My cardio fitness has improved massively but I've put half a stone on in 3 months and my arms and legs are much stronger.
This for a bloke who never used a gym before!

You want to be careful Tony, I have attended the gym for over ten years now and use to be a substantial size built of solid muscle. I then started snowboarding and found balance very difficult due to being top heavy. I lost about 1.5 stone in muscle mass and now have a much better balance point making it much easier to board. If you pile on a lot of top muscle when you haven't had it before you may find balance an issue when hitting the slopes.

Core exercises are the key to perfect balance, if you have a strong core you will notice a significant increase in all over body strength and balance.

Suspension training. Basically a rope with handles which hand down, it allows you to perform numerous body weight movements. Very good for core training and building strength before moving on to static weights/movements for precise muscle build.
